breeding advice

Postby stlouiskid » Mon Jan 08, 2007 3:00 pm

Would like some ideas on the following mares for 2007 breedings.
Royal Bandita-has a yearling by Pleasantly Perfect and is in foal to Wando.
Breeding to sell. Have considered Borrego.
Bud's Bandita-showed brilliant speed as a 2 year old in training but could not get her to races due to soundness problems. Looking for an outcross and some soundness for her. Breeding to race.
Greenfinder-had a good runner by Gogarty, has a 3 year old in training by Virrageo, a very nice looking yearling by King Cugat, and is in foal to Pleasant Tap. The nick we used with the King Cugat foal was the Majestic Light-Buckfinder(Buckpasser), seems to have worked well. Have considerd Monarchos and Out of Place. Breeding to race.
Prefer Kentucky or Illinois based sires, have an excellent relationship with Lanes End, but will consider all farms.

Edited to make more sense.

I like Out of Place with Greenfinder, and for the same price he is IMO a much better value than Monarchos. Also consider Runaway Groom for her--I don't know if he is in your price range for her or not, but he is a solid racehorse sire and he loves Buckpasser blood. Also look at Madelyn's Rocking Trick.

For Royal Bandita--take a look at Silver Deputy. He's done well with both Roberto and (especially) Tom Rolfe blood; I think that the key ingredient to Silver Deputy in Tom Rolfe is linebreeding to Roman. Look at the pedigrees of Silverbulletday, Deputy INXS, and Deputy Jane West, all of whom have a different strain of Roman and all of whom are champions. Good sales and great racing value for $30,000.

thanks for your thoughts, very interesting idea with Silver Deputy. I really don't think of him as being very commercial, but his yearling sales were very solid last year when looking at it.

Sires to consider

With Royal Bandita I would consider Military at $10,000 His leading earner is out of a Roberto mare and Military is proven.

With Bud's Bandita you may consider Rocking Trick line breeding Terlingua 3x4. Other than Terlingua you would have an outcross. You may also consider Grindstone at $3500 linebreeding Somethingroyal 5x5 and Mr. Prospector 3x4.

With Green Finder I would consider Medallist who is standing for $8500 at Three Chimneys

For Royal Bandita, I like a lot War Front. You will have all sectors of the market favoring you.
