Inbreeding Mating Advice

Postby dsmelnic » Mon Apr 23, 2007 7:43 pm

This spring I'm interested in breeding my broodmare-For I have Sinned (Supremo-My Sin-High Estate) to Battle Cat (Storm Cat-Picco Bello-Seeking The Gold). My question is-when I hypomated the two the entire sheet highlights with inbreeding colors especially strong in the Bold Ruler line on both sides plus many others. Is this too much inbreeding within the two to inherit too many flaws and lose hybrid vigor? Should I stay clear of this cross? This is Battle Cat's 2nd year standing in Canada. His first crop will race this spring. Your advice on this mating would be greatly appreciated. :)

Inbreeding allows for genetic sameness. If the mating results in genes that allow for superior racing aptitude you're half way home. If genes passed down are predisposed to lameness; week immune system; bleeding etc. you're behind the eight ball. You may get a little of both.

The hypo mating indicates inbreeding to Mr. Prospector 4x4. Some regard Mr. Prospector inbreeding as a negative. You have linebreeding to several racing greats five generations on out.

The stallion Battle Cat was a relatively unsuccessful performer on the race track. His genetic influence is critical. If he carries largely unsuccessful racing genectics the odds of getting something good is slim.

If the mating is successful it willbe called line-breeding; if not it will be in-breeding

Thanks for the info. Battle Cat's unsuccessful racing career was dubbed due to soreness. They pushed him too early at the track based on his breeding hoping for a superhorse and he came up sore. A full brother to him Storm Commander was a stakes winner. Your right-lets hope he's got the good part of the racing genetics.
