advice needed to help understand

Postby tammysinnett » Sun May 13, 2007 8:56 pm

I have a stallion that we are trying to put some positive babies on the ground.....I was told at one point that Gallant Man was unusually close in his dam side. I have found a filly...with Gallant Man even closer.....would breedign the two be a postive influence in foal for racing....when I look at the hypo breeding not much blacktype in this mare, no winnings, so this would have to be a selling point for a foal.....would this be enough???I think I know the answer...but I still am dependant on this board.

Not really.

If that is the only thing you like about this mare, pass.

The only graded stakes winner that comes up with inbreeding to Gallant Man is Hebreo Japones, a 1992 mare. It is in a much more influential position in that pedigree. But she is also 4x5 Princequillo... which is strong.

Hi Tammysinnett,

Adding to what Madelyn wrote, Gallant Man was closely inbred to Mah Mahal (3x3) and Blanford (4x4) and this is perhaps why he wasn't as successful when inbred.

The mating that you're proposing isn't a problem as far as the Gallant Man 4x3 inbreeding. In fact it still has as many unique ancestors as most complete outcrossed pedigrees.

Bowlegged Woman is 12 with no foals showing. Her family had some quality but it's in regression since Spout and I'd agree with madelyn that the crossing of Gallant Man, while interesting, isn't a compelling reason to breed her.

Regards,

Pete
