Secretariat 1st Generation Granddaughters

Postby milhouse241 » Sun Jun 17, 2007 8:10 pm

Hello - While I admit I am new to the thoroughbred breeding business, I can across a 1st Generation granddaughter to Secretariat. He is the sire of the dam of this mare. The dam is unraced, but has a full sister that won quite a bit. The mare I am potentially about to purchase is well bred, but looks like she may have gooten hurt on the track. She did not race much. She sold for 90K when she was a two year old, not that it has anything to do with my question. She's a good 17 hands high and nothing short of a monster. Extremely docile though. Doesnt appear to have any injuries and is owned by a veternarian. She is well taken care of

Are the 3rd generation of Secretariat's offspring doing well?

I cant make up my mind if I want her or would purchase a routine cribber with an almost equal pedigree, who won almost 200K.

Any help?

Thanks

Hi Milhouse,

There's not much that anyone can tell you without knowing the name of the mare. Having Secretariat as the sire of the dam of the mare may be a good thing but there's a lot more to consider than just his presence in the pedigree.

Regards,

Pete

If you like Secretariat grand daughters take a look at Risen Colours by Risen Star and out of a 3/4 sister to Secretariat.

I have her daighter by Accelarator [who is by A.P Indy]

Griff, who are you looking at breeding her to? Looks like a outcross might work well with her.

I would be just as excited about her sire, Cahill Road, who is a full brother to Unbridled and the son of arguably Mr. Prospectors finest son, Fappiano.

Will you be breeding in Louisiana or can you ship to Ky? What price range for the stud fee?

She's in foal to Yankee Gentleman for March 2008. That's not exactly an out cross as he adds another line to Secretariat [4S X 4D x 5D] and a 5S x 5D x 5D X 6D to Somethingroyal. We'll foal her 08 Yankee Gentleman foal in PA and will be looking for a Mod Atlantic stallion as I do not intend to haul a new born to KY.

I bought her to breed to NOT FOR LOVE and then discovered her sire's dam is a full sister to NFL.

right now we are considering Pin Oak Lane's SIPHON [PA] and NayLee's LIMIT OUT [WV] for 2008. SIPHON would be a complete out-cross and Limit Out would add Northern Dancer and Mr P line breeding. The 09 Limit Out foal would be 4S X 4D to Mr P which I don't think would be too close..

It will probably be SIPHON in 08 as he has a good commercial record.
