Inbreeding To Native Partner - Good Idea?

Postby Stuttgart » Fri Jul 27, 2007 10:59 am

Hi guys. I recently purchased a Mark Of Esteem filly that is out of a stakes winning Formidable mare. Thus, she is 4x3 inbred to Native Partner. I have begun to consider prospective matings for the filly and I can't get Noverre out of my mind. With Native Partner being Noverre's third dam, the resulting foal would have NP three times in her first five generations, the closest two on either side making her 4x4 inbred. Thus, qualifying her for the Rasmussan Factor. Does the board think this is a wise move, or would there perhaps be too much NP in the resulting foal? Any opinions would be appreciated.

Inbreeding Native Partner

I don't have a clue if this list is complete but it appears that inbreeding to Native Partner may not be what you hoped. Nine horses does not make a good sample but so far it doesn't appear promising.

Thanks for that, hpking. Where can I information on crosses like you have produced there?

Stuttgart,

IMO you need not inbreed further to Native Partner to maximize your mare's genetic power. I would select a stallion who was inbred to Northern Dancer, perhaps with some Blushing Groom blood, to cross on her, assuming his conformation was complimentary to her. The practice of of inbreed--outcross--inbreed--outcross can be easily performed with your mare. Good luck.
