Would you breed her?

This mare is listed on another board, with some lively discusssion from the sport horse folks. My racing brethren, what say ye about this Ogden Phipps bred mare?

She looks like she may have some repro issues and has not been bred to much.

Her dam produced two graded stakes performers, and is out of a champion 2 year old filly who happens to be a full sister to Reviewer.

most recent catalog page I could find online: http://www.fasigtipton.com/catalogs/2002/1021/winner%20haven%20farm.pdf

Crap, don't care who bred her.

Forget the Phipps connection and concentrate on the fact that she's 19yo and has a shoddy production record. She's had more than enough opportunity to come up with the goods and failed. She couldn't even produce a middling allowance horse. Apparently she's difficult to get in foal/keep in foal. Why would you want to mess with a mare that old with a record like that when there are mares just as nicely bred who are much younger and haven't shown to be a failure?

At 19yos, who bred her, who she's out of and who she's related to is immaterial. She's not producing so there's no reason to continue throwing good money at her.

Give the money to charity, and save some heartache. Find another mare.

I've certainly seen a lot worse mares than this one being bred. I agree, she's "had her chances" but then again, looks like she's also been an unlucky mare, with foals dying, and trouble getting in foal. And what's more, she seems to have been bred to a selection of rather uninspiring stallions. And as a Majestic Light half-sister to the winner of the Manhattan H ((then G2), as well as a runner-up in the Brooklyn H (G1), and a champion 2-year-old filly as her second dam, I'd be hard pressed to shout abuse at anyone who decided to roll the dice, breed her to a nice stallion, and see what they come up with. I wouldn't do it with my very limited money, but if I had a client with reasonably deep pockets who wanted to take a gamble (clearly this mare can't cost more than $1,000), I dunno, I could be convinced pretty easily.

The 2001 daughter by Pride Of Burkaan might be a diamond in the rough - NEVER, NEVER, NEVER give up on anything tail end to Flitabout!!!

If you need proof that the Flitabout line can still produce a nice runner in 2007, check out Law Enforcement's debut earlier this summer.
