I NEED HELP!!

I have acquired a mare named Slick City Chic by Carson City. She is out of A Slick Chic by Chieftain. She has produced 5 foals and one of them being a SW by Valid Expectations. She stands 15.2-15.3, medium boned. Very nice mare from a top family. She will be having cervix repair surgery this summer to repair a tear. Vet says everything should be fine for next year. So here we go. I have looking at stallions that are a good cross for her and have come up with a lot. What are ya'lls opinions and why? Heres my list:

Purim
Master Command
Yankee Gentleman
Flashy Bull
Holy Bull
The Daddy
Wildcat Heir
Good Reward
Halos Image

Out of that bunch I don't know how you could look at anyone other than Holy Bull. Dosage, nicks or any other computer or number based mumbo jumbo aside, you would have to do a lot of hoping and wishing for the others to accomplish what he has. If they match up conformation wise, that's where I would be going

He was my leading contender. I was really looking at his son Flashy Bull to inbreed to Blushing Groom. Purim would bring the up and coming Roberto cross over Mr P. Plus Barbaro was Dynaformer over Carson City. Master Command would bring a lot more of family 1x form his female line. Wildcat Heir was a seriously fast horse whose first babies are selling well, and pluys the success D'Wildcat horse has had makes it more tempting. I've counted out Yankee Gentleman because they say on the website that he needs mares over 16H and she is 15.2 or 3. Plus he was unsound as was his mother. Halos Image is proven also and the in Reality and halo have crosses very well with Carson City mares. And the The Daddy is a son of Valid Expectations, which she has a SW by. Plus his brother was by Carson City, With A City. I also like Kafwain A LOT.

Have you considered Mizzen Mast? Slick City Chic's stakes winning half sister, A Slim Chic, produced the stakes winner, A Muckity Muck (40-10-2-1), when mated to Cozzene. Mizzen Mast is off to a decent start at stud, and has had success with Mr Prospector line mares.

Hi Derby2004,

Sorry to weigh in late on this topic but it's still quite early for your intentions and that's my point.

You would be well served to remain flexible with your possible stallion choices for your mare because what is relevant now may not be next year.

You also don't mention if you're breeding to race or sell.

I'd caution against breeding strategies without having done your due dilligence in proofing their effectiveness.

Hi Pete. Thanks for the insight. Im trying to be as patient as i can, but i'm on a fixed budget and if i want to go higher than 10k on a stud, i have to start working on it now. Master Command, Good Reward, War Front, Holy Bull and Easing Along have really grown on me lately. Im hoping Zanjero goes to stud next year

I don't feel like I'm in a position to tell anyone what to do with their mares but for what it's worth, I really like Zanjero too!

I think he will make a really nice stallion. There's a part of me that hopes he doesn't win a G1 so he'll remain affordable.

Wildcat Heir makes the most sense of all of the stallions listed. He is going to be the next Repent, Songandaprayer or Yes It's True to come out of Florida. Breed to him and thank yourself in 24 months when he is standing in Kentucky for $25,000!

Have you thought about Littleexpectations? He is full brother to Valid Expectations and he is in Kentucky. The Daddy is in Florida. Littleexpectations stud fee is only $3,500.

That's quite the assumption seeing as Holy Bull already has a BC Juvy winner and a Derby winner...but whatever people want to hope and believe in the ends it's up to you...I prefer actual stats instead of what ifs...Good luck

Valid Expectations is a little out of my range. His fee should come down in 09 if he doesnt get a good one. Plus he is a smaller horse, only 15.3, and I would like a larger stud. Holy Bull fits the bill, just hoping his fee doesnt rise after this year. Macho Uno seems to be doing good as a young sire. So theres the hope of having a stud prospect with him. She does however have a bad knee, typical of the Carson Citys. So I have to take that in to account.
