mating suggestions

Postby AscotStud » Wed Mar 12, 2008 10:27 am

My brother Chris has been forced to go to another stallion with his mare J'Aime Jeblis.
We've got some ideas, but any advice good or bad is always worth weighing. She isn't due until April so we've got some time to weigh our options. He's trying to keep her in the $7.5k-15k range in Ky, we breed to sell at the Woodbine sale. But still look for a mating that we would be happy with in our barn if we don't get what we want.

Hi

I like Jump Start for her. He is proven, and has had decent success at the sales. Great conduit profile in the hypo mating.
Good luck.

After briefly discussing things over the phone tonight I think we are leaning towards 3 horses right now.
Silent Name: I always liked him and his affinity for Poly and Turf should really suit our market. The mare has a filly who produced a SP Southern Halo filly. His knock is I like proven horses over freshmen.
Northern Afleet: More of a commercial gamble, even though I do like him. If he continues to bring his mares up like he has been, he should be pretty hot by the time the yearling sells, with 200+ 3 and 4 year olds from his first 2 KY crops post Afleet Alex.
Skip Away: a big gamble here, but the mare has an unraced NY bred 3yo filly who has been working very well by him. She should be set to start soon, and a BIG performance by her would make it worth rolling the dice (although in Canada you can usually get away with selling a foal by a stallion who is not commercial in KY, if it looks good).

The mare is pretty much your average looking horse, a touch smaller than average (we put little emphasis on size so I don't really care how big a stallion is, more the physical make up of the horse), so barring any major flaws she is pretty easy to match up physically.

Thanks for those who have posted their opinions and to those who follow.

Take a look at INGOT who is standing at Avile Acres in Ontario. He's a Seeking the Gold colt our of a multi graded stakes winning Storm Cat mare with $865k in winnings. Not much up close line breeding..

4S X 4D to Raise A Native

5S X 3D to Alydar

He didn't do much on the track but then neither did Danzig

Thanks Griff, but if we were going to stay in Canada with that mare we would be going to one of our two stallions (Tejano Run or Impeachment), nothing against Ingot, he's actually a few minutes from our farm and owned by good people.
One criteria that is a must for us is race record and soundness.

Right now I think Silent Name is going to be the one, I love Halo over Danzig for this mare. Still waiting to hear back from 1 or 2 other farms to see if we can get a sweeter deal.

I haven't seen Silent Name before.. It's good to see some Sundal Silence coming back to the USA.
