Waimea is out of a stakes winner and from a good female family. Go For Gin has also been the broodmare sire of some stakes winners and is himself from a strong female family. So, despite her race record, Waimea is I think the better broodmare candidate of the two just on breeding. Her own conformation might make her a bad candidate.

Functional conformation of the two would be a key. If you are breeding to race, I rather like the pedigree upside of Shoshoni Guide (full or half sibling to 6 winners including Highway West, 36-8-5-5 $129,600). Her sire is too young to make a judgement as to his capabilities as a broodmare sire, but early results are encouraging. Her dam is an unraced half sibling to the stakes winner Chickasha. Her 3rd dam was stakes placed, and her 4th dam, a 3 time winner in 51 starts, is a half sibling to the stakes winner Gasparilla. The conduit profile is nicely balanced tracing to the very inbred conduit mare Noontide (3x2 to Domino and 3x3 to Springfield) (also the conduit mare of the legendary Stymie, Belmont Stakes winner High Gun, and the stallions Cactus Ridge, Country Be Gold, Mr Livingston, and Larrupin'). If she has decent conformation she might be worth a look as a prospect in a regional market.

To close to call. Assuming neither mare has serious conformational flaws, both seem to have some positive attributes.Flip a coin.
A bloodstock agent recently told me this story. A mare was booked and sent to a Ky stallion. Upon arrival, it was learned the stallion was unavailable. The only stallion available for breeding that day was Marquetry. The mare was bred to Marquetry and the subsequent foal was Artax who earned nearly 1.7 million. Although it does require knowledge to breed successfully, it also takes alot of luck.
