I have a 1996 mare named Codetrando (Bertrando x Little Code (Lost Code)) that I would be interested in finding someone to work with to get an Ontario-sired or statebred (from states listed in subject line) by a Storm Cat sire line stallion. Her dam produced California champion (and graded stakes earner of over $500 K) Calkins Road when bred to a Storm Cat son named Illinois Storm.
I purchased this mare from a Michigan family in 2005. She was their only horse and was an occasional trail horse. She is unraced and looks to have an old injury on her left side (front and hind legs), so I am not sure if she was ever in training, but she never raced. So, she started her production career relatively late with her first foal born in 2006 (a very tall correct colt by Crusader Sword who I sold 50% interest in at 5 days ole. He is headed to the trainer next month). Because I am a small breeder and concious of numbers, I elected to only breed her every other year for the time being. Her 2nd foal is a tall, fancy 2008 colt by my stallion Gallant. She conceives and foals easily. She is currently open as I chose not to breed her back, again, just to keep numbers on the farm under control.
I like both colts and the mare is easy to have around, but I would like to try her with a Storm Cat and I would like to have a horse eligible to run in the Ontario program (I am located across the border in NY, just 30 - 40 miles from Fort Erie). I realize that I could breed her outside myself, but would prefer to work with another breeder to stay conservative on costs and therefore have money left to get the offspring to the track.
The mare is 16.1, dark bay, no white markings, long, leggy, and very correct. The combination of Bertrando and Lost Code in her pedigree certainly comes through in her tall, leggy colts. Her colts are also the most elegant, daisy-clipper movers that I have, so they will hopefully go on to show homes after their race careers.
I am open to being creative with another breeder as to how we do this (lease, sale w/rights to foal, etc.). I figured I would put out feelers, and see if anyone was interested or might be able to refer me to someone who might be. I do not need a fancy situation, but would look for folks that are honest and that take good care of their horses.
Thanks for any correspondence in advance.
