Incorrect Breeding History?

while researching the progeny of a mare, i noticed two offspring included in the PQ report that did not show up on the BRIS report for the mare. additionally, neither of these offspring names are registered with the jockey club. at the risk of sounding cynical, is false information sometimes posted in PQ to enhance the value of a horse?

I DO believe that has happened a few times before.
I recall a mare sold at one time for $$$ based on phony info put in the PQ database, to a newbie buyer not savvy enough to know this is a public database and any old joe can monkey with the records. Folks gently corrected the buyer's post about the mare, providing factual information for the APR, and there was a lot of grumbles and protests. Caveat emptor.

Not to want to put too fine a point on it but when you run Mr Prospector and look at his progeny on PQ there are about 40 horses that are not by Mr Prospector that are on the list and about the same number by Mr Prospector that are missing from it.

We had a Seattle Slew mare that someone used to add progeny for all the time. They'd pick stallions she'd never been bred to, and name the ficticious offspring giving them birth dates far out in the future. I used to go back every few months and clean up her record.

False info is posted for any number of reasons - people trying to enhance their own horses or devalue someone else's, kids playing sim games, adults stealing the hypo-mating feature, whack-jobs tinkering with horses belonging to folks they don't like....the list goes on.
If you notice a large or recurring issue, feel free to PM me and I'll keep an eye on things. But my computer access is limited right now, so I'm sure my 'usual suspects' are having themselves a field day.
