I bought this little mare from the CTHS-Alberta Fall sale

http://www.pedigreequery.com/wig

She is in foal to a Stallion named Tempered Appeal

I was curious what the experts think of her as a broodmare and of the potential of this foal

Thanks!

Like the mare, love the mating. In Reality loves the return of In Reality, Buckpasser has combined with Hail to Reason for 187 graded winners. Of nine listed stakes winners with Herbager inbreeding, 8 of the 9 are sex balanced as is the prospective foal. Private Terms threw soundness and a ton of useful horse. Best wishes on the mare.

I like the mare as well, she has also thrown winners, some blacktype and soundness. 3 of her progeny have had atleast 30 starts! Stallion also had over 50 starts so should throw soundness as well. Good buy!

So Hopkg, just for fun, can you help me with a pick? I have no money, so Im going for P Fifity One here in Tn, for at least 1 mare. I respect your opinions much, and you are never nasty to people, so even though I really cant afford much, what would you suggest, (and this is just for fun, again, I probably wont even breed again) for a Saratoga Six mare out of Lustrous Reason, and a Lion Hearted mare by that Saratoga Six mare?? just curious, as you spoke of the Buckpasser/Hail to reason cross, which would be the Lion Hearted mare, and many possible crosses for the Saratoga Six mare. I know they arent commercial, yada, yada, so this is for fun, not for bashing, please :)

With Six Reasons I like Margies Wildcat as an inexpensive option. The mating returns several of the strongest parts of the dam's pedigree. Margies Wilcat is half to War Chant and three other graded winners. He was injured in training and never was able to perform well on the track.

I like the number and strengths of equivalent horses in the mating.

thanks for the replies, she's my first foray into the racing game (though I've been around horses in other ways for a long time) so I'm quite happy about her.

You've got a mare free of all the major bloodlines....and from the female line of of the great Blue Hen mare Alcibiades.

Make sure you KEEP the females........if they start producing stake winners,
expect the big studs come knocking!!

I think there is somehow two different mares in this thread.

I LOVE Wig's pedigree. I have a wonderful mare from the same female family.

Why don't you consider the inexpensive Captain Bodgit, standing in Alberta?

Isn't Captain Bodgit on of the more expensive stallions standing in Alberta?

according to his site his fee is only $3000 LFG

Captain is a good looking boy for sure, he has a simialr build to Wig too.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll have to look into it

This mare descends from a Claiborne farm female family. Some things you might find interesting. Her half brother Masquerader sold at Keeneland in 2003 for 200,000 to Shiek Maktoum and is still racing. Another half brother by Seeking the Gold RNAed in 2000 for 325,000 also at Keeneland. Unfortunately they have not lived up to their promise. Her half sister wheneverweremember produced a chapel royal yearling that sold for 3,000 last year. Best of luck.
