3 mares....Suggestions?

Postby AfleetAlex » Wed Jan 21, 2009 8:18 pm

I have 3 mares and I am wanting to get Indiana Bred/sired foals for the 2010 year. Had some bad luck last year but we are going to give it another go! The mares are:

Bulls Angel (Holy Bull - Deke Sweetheart, by Belong to Me)
Houston Bound (Houston - Casa petrone, by Petrone)
Quest for Jane (Quest for Fame - Jayne, by Strawberry Road)

I am having such a hard time deciding where they are going, but as I said before, looking to get Indiana Bred AND Sired foals!

Thanks!
Janey

My suggestion is to determine what your mares need from a stallion physically. I would then look at pedigree and start the culling process.

I would put a mare to Black Moonshine
I would put another to Private Lap
and I would consider Century City for the other. Maybe try and get a multiple mare discount to one of the two above.

Has Bulls Angel ever had any race training?? If not whny not give her a try before you turn her intoi a brood mare..

I like Indy Mood and would call about a two or three horse discount

You should really consider either Wild Zone or Wild Deputy for Bulls Angel- There is just too much evidence of a strong Wild Again to Holy Bull nick to ignore. Both are IN stallions and have reasonable prices. Pick the one that matches physically with your mare and go for it.

Wild Deputy,
Looks great, Hes been throwing alot of Sprinters and Milers ( later years)
He is a good cross with the Holy Bull and highest Nicks you receive.
I wanted to bred my mare to Holly Bull _ shes a Wild Deputy broodmare but I didnt have that type of money. AS far as getting something that looks like Wild Again from Wild Deputy, I dont know alot of the horses that I am seeing Now look alot like Dept Minister than Wild Again, and alot of them run on the turf.

Is Commemorate still active? He was last standing in Indiana and he would be a fantastic cross with the Holy Bull mare.

Commemorate and Belong to Me are extremely close relatives. Commemorate is by Exclusive Native and out of a half-sister to Belonging, the dam of Belong to Me, who is also by Exclusive Native.

This inside out type of inbreeding is often effective and you're doubling up on two of the classiest points in the mare's pedigree.

I actually really like Houston Bound's pedigree, even if it's a weak family behind her. I love to see Malindi in a pedigree since she's a rare full-sister to Nasrullah.

I'm not familiar with Indiana stallions but I would go through the list and look for the stallions that have the most strains of Nasrullah for her.
