I'm thinking of breeding the mares Josette(1985) and Under Mining (1990), to D's Bertrando. I'd appreciate any opinions on these matings, especially in regards to soundness. Josette was a multiple stakes winner, retired sound, and has excellent conformation(especially her legs). Under Mining is slightly base narrow, and I'm wondering if it's wise to go for a 3x4 Mr. Prospector foal from her. She does have the potential to have 2 copies of the x-factor. If anyone has suggestions about other stallions I'm open to advice.

I used to own Under Mining... and can tell you that when we bought her, she had chips in both knees and both ankles. Soundness is definately an issue with this mare. Is she still as mean towards other horses as she was when we had her?

How did you end up with her? I checked her produce record a few years ago, and it didn't look like she had had a live foal in several years.

I like Beau Genius for Under Mining.

I bought her from an estate dispersal, sight unseen. Her previous owner was no longer capable of caring for her and she was very thin. She gets along fine with my other mares. I make sure to give them plenty of extra feed and they have lots of space between feeders. I've found that those are the usual causes of horses not getting along. Thanks for telling me about the chips, as I don't know much about her history. Did you race or breed her?

We bought her off the track (Turf Paradise) and bred her to Court Trial, but the colt bowed early on in his training, which prompted us to sell her. We were definately concerned with the soundness factor. That's why I would consider Beau Genius for her.
