This mating worth it?

I'm thinking about sending my mare, President Patty, to a nicely bred Storm Cat stud, Doug Fir. There isn't any inbreeding. The mare liked to go long, so would this be a good fit? Any input on this? Or should I consider a different stud? (Stud needs to stand in IA) Thanks!

Personally, I am not to crazy about a stallion that ran 3 times and never finished in the money. If it were me I would try to increase La Troienne by going to Wild Invader or Corporate Report. Both of these stallions would give you a GSV score of about 62-63 range.

Thanks Rick. Doug Fir's race record was one thing I did take into consideration....I also did consider Corporate Report. Thanks for the input!

As one who owns a filly by a "winning" and fast son of Storm Cat, even with the best of circumstances, Storm Cat sons throw horses with a high chance of having bad knees and ankles. So, I urge you to stay away from anything but the most correct, most sound son of Storm Cat, IF you are planning to breed to one of his sons at all. Even at that, you could end up with a foal with lots of problems.

I recall the speech given by the owner of Sweet Catomine, at the Eclipse Awards this last year...He thanked his wife for "allowing him to continue to breed to Storm Cat". With all their money and even with breeding to the real thing (Storm Cat himself)...they STILL had some bad legged babies that couldn't run or make it to the races.

Stay away from cheap sires with bad race records, in general. But definitely stay away from sons of Storm Cat that are cheap with bad race records.
