Hi Pancho,

I'm presuming that you're breeding to sell.

Your mare is screaming for a Mr. Prospector line stallion.

Charmer is a half sister to:
KING GLORIOUS (Naevus), Fadetta (Fappiano), Glorious Queen (dam of Blue Eyed Lilli by Gulch), all by sons of Mr. Prospector.

Charmer's second dam, Blued Eyed Blond, produced Sassy Blue whose best foal is Mowata (119k) by Naevus.

Fadetta (Fappiano) produced several respectable runners in Japan by Dixieland Band and Sunday Silence (who is the same sire line as Charmer's sire, You And I - Hail To Reason).

Charmer is free of both Mr. Prospector and Northern Dancer. Her half brother, Treasury, is by Deputy Minister so we can assume that Northern Dancer is complimentary if not potentially good to bring into a breeding with Charmer. Additionally, Arch was a superior son of Kris S. out of a Danzig mare.

YOU, (You And I – Our Dani by Homebuilder) has been the best foal of You And I and Homebuilder is a son of Mr. Prospector. You’s third dam, Lover’s Walk, is the dam of Regent’s Walk, second dam of Marquetry, sire of Artax. On paper, an Artax/Charmer mating is compelling, but Artax has lost much of his commercial appeal. This mating would produce a foal that has a very similar genetic make-up to You (in reverse if you will). Like You, the Artax/Charmer foal would be an outcross through 4 generations, with a 5th generation inside cross to Princequillo and instead of a 5x5 Nashua cross as You has, it would be 6x6 Nashua in this foal.

Gold Token (Mr. Prospector) and Gold Fever (Forty Niner) are both useful racehorse sires in NY. I prefer Gold Token because from fewer foals and lesser mares he is doing about as well as Gold Fever. Gold Token carries both Mr. Prospector and Northern Dancer. Gold Fever’s statistics are from his stay in KY.

Hook And Ladder (Dixieland Band) is a Northern Dancer line stallion who has some qualities that might work with Charmer but his commercial appeal is questionable but he was bred to 76 mares in 2004 and stands at Lakland North who has supported their stallions well (such as Precise End).

My commercial choice would be Wheelaway. A son of Unbridled (Fappiano), he is getting exceptional looking foals (12 in the Saratoga Preferred Sale). Fappiano’s only foal with Charmer’s family was the good filly Fadetta (mentioned above) who was G2 placed. In addition, Kris S. had good success with In Reality mares and though they weren’t his best, they tended to be more sound.

Regards,

Pete

Hi Pancho,

There are several studs to consider in New York and one I would really consider would be Good and Tough. On the other hand I would lean toward the Northern Dancer sire line. Sweet Catomine, War Chant, and Senor Swinger are out of Kris S. mares. Rock Hard Ten and Hollywood Wildcat are out of Mr. Prospector mares. You is by You and I and out of a Homebulder mare. Giant's Causeway's second dam is by Roberto. Afleet Alex is from the Mr. Prospector sire line and out of a Roberto line mare through Silver Hawk and Hawkster. Ocean Silk is by Dynaformer and out of a Kingmambo mare. Film Maker is by Dynaformer and out of a Mr. Prospector mare. Riskaverse is by Dynaformer and out of a Seeking the Gold mare. Of the studs in New York I would consider Good and Tough, Performing Magic, Tommorrow's Cat, and Catienus. I would consider Wheelaway and Hook and Ladder also. You mare should cross well with Northern Dancer, Nearctic, Mr. Prospector, and Bold Ruler bloodlines.
