Pedigree Query

Does anyone have any suggestions for my filly Coquinerie(Sahm-Istinad, Kris S.)? She will probably be retired next year and bred. She's earned over 101k and is one of those fillies that gives you a heart attack when you see her run. She comes from dead last and is a stone cold closer with an amazing turn of foot. She's twice stakes placed, once on the dirt and once on the turf and she loves distance-- a fast closing head in a 12f turf race.

She's on the small side and very feminine in appearance but she's very tough and has always been exceptionally sound (knock on wood) with no glaring faults conformationally.

Ideally, I would like to race the foals but still have the option of producing a nice sales foal if I choose to go that route with the colts. I would also like to get a two turn dirt foal since she's shown she can handle the dirt as well.

I'd be breeding in KY and would be flexible on the stud fee but would find it extremely hard to justify 100k or more.

On a side note, her 2yo half brother by Elusive Quality sold for 340k to Jay Em Ess Stable last year in Keeneland Sept.

I love your mare's pedigree and could list plenty of UK Sires for her.

As for US sires I'd look for one that had Thong and/or Cosmah and/or Nijinsky in the Sire's Sire line and Mr P in the bottom. If such a Sire exists over where you are.

I to like your filly's pedigree. It depends on what you want to do as how to breed her. If you are breeding to race, I would considering adding more Rough Shod to the equation thru K One King. If are looking to sell, I might try a Halo line horse.

On a budget, I think you might glance at Tactical Cat....

With a limit of $100K you have many choices. Personally I think a good bet is Dixie Union at $30K. His 2 yr olds ran well in 2004 and he had great sales results. From a pedigree side, you get Mr. Prospector sex balanced through Dixie Union's tail female and Sahm. You also get an interesting 5x5 to Bold Hour through 2 daughters. Overall it gives a very balanced mating. Best of luck.

Please consider Pleasant Tap.

Pleasant Tap over All Dance (daughter of All Rainbows) yielded multiple gr-1 winner (and solid, tough racehorse) Tap Dance City.

Pleasant Tap over Nureyev yielded MG2w filly Tap to Music.

In addition, you pick up linebreeding to Lalun.

Pleasant Tap has size and substance, will get you a runner, and for his $10,000 you are hard pressed to find a better deal. The only downside is that his foals generally don't sell well, as they take time to mature.

For what it's worth, the Werk Nick on the Lane's End page gives this an A---but I really like putting Pleasant Tap over a (Northern Dancer x Miss Carmie) mare.

You might consider Out of Place (7.5K) at Claiborne. He has bred about 20 Kris S mares with about 25 foals. If memory serves me 8 or 9 have been stakes winners with additional stakes placed horses. He gets a high percentage of runners and winners, not as commerical as some but may be a great value/nick for you. Take a look at his stallion page in the Blood Horse stallion book. I think you have several excellent options with her.
