While these statistics may and most likely do include mares which lost their pregnancies, I believe the consistency, inconsistency will give a bit of an idea as to what is happening with the stallion's fertility status. I wonder why there was such a steep drop, and whether that was the reason why he was moved to La.....
I sure wish there was a better indicator of any of these stallions fertility rate.

sb, you are looking at two variables that are separated out on the years that have three numbers and a percentage, and a combination of those variables in the ones that include two numbers with percentage live foal.

The most recent years vary in the conception rate and live birth rate, sometimes due to initial failure to conceive, and sometimes due to losses during the pregnancy. The older numbers don't differentiate between them. I'm assuming the numbers mean:
#covered, # in foal, #live foal deliveries, percent live foals.
The year with the most mares covered was also the year of MRLS losses in KY.

Most recent line 2003 breeding season 67,47,38 represents 70% in foal, and 81% of those had live foals, total 57% of those covered.
Next line 2002 breeding season is 82, 65, 48--79% in foal, 74% of those live foal, total 59% of those covered.
Next line 2001 breeding season (MRLS effect) is 126,104,75--83% in foal, 72% of those delivered a live foal, or total 60%.
2000 breeding season is 61, 52, 44--85% in foal, 85% of those delivered a live foal. I'm surprised some of those late pregnancies weren't lost due to MRLS, so these numbers are unexpectedly high.

Some of the changes could be due to changing personnel or techniques for breeding. This year's crop will be hard to compare, since a different farm is involved in Louisiana, and a different quality of mares.
