Thoughts on breeding Sincere Friend

Postby aurora » Tue Aug 09, 2005 8:51 am

I am breeding to sell. Sincere Friend is a large mare 16.3 or perhaps 17 hands, a bit long bodied as was Seattle Slew, well conformed except not the straightest knees and unraced probably due to this. I Must have a good legged stallion. Her first TB foal was a colt by Devon Lane and was a knockout. I sold him to a FL trainer but he died of colic just before he turned 2. Her 2nd TB foal is quite a nice big weanling colt by Najran born in May so I didn't breed her back this year. I haven't decided how much to spend on a fee, I don't want to over breed or under breed either. Perhaps a suggestion on what level I should be looking at???

Her stake winning 3/4 brother Daring General ($356K) was champion 2 year old colt in CA and was 2nd in the Del Mar F. and 3rd in the Norfolk. A full sister to Daring General is stake placed Stereotype ($135K). Another 1/2 sister by Alydar produced SW Orange Glow ($38K) and still another 1/2 sister by Slew O' Gold produced stakes placed Cyper Slew ($351K).

2nd dam by Northern Dancer produced the G1 (AUS) mare Belle Chanson. 3rd dam is the fine producer Extra Place.

I'm reposting as I haven't gotten any response. Any suggestions on this one?

Hi Aurora,

There are some things to like about the match-up with Madelyn's MGIW stallion Rocking Trick (ARG) as his 2nd dam got a Multiple GI Winning Steeplechaser named Yaw when bred to Seattle Slew and Avenue of Flag's damsire Pass The Glass of course got his best granddaughter (or grandfoal period for that matter) in the shape of Phone Trick's (RT's sire) Champion Daughter Phone Chatter.

Also, Flying Paster has combined nicely with RT's damsire Storm Cat in the Champion 2YO Filly Sweet Catomine and Yankee Gentlemen, a SW who once ran 7f in 1:07 4/5.

Just at first glance I would take a look at Valid Expectations with this mare. Even though you mentioned her being long bodied as VE is very QH like but gets good numbers & they sell well enough & tend to be very sound overall.

Wow, I just noticed that he is up to $17,500 which is quite strong for a horse that stands in Texas. While I do like the horse (great family!) do you think his Texas F-T yearlings will be profitable? The sale is in about a week & I'll check out his sale prices after.
