Mating Advice for T-bred Jeans Dilemma by Well Decorated
Good evening all, I am new here and also to Thoroughbreds. I mostly deal with Quarters and Appaloosas. Last Aug a friend of ours picked up a Thoroughbred from Ocala (Jeans Dilemma aka Jodi)...a friend of hers had too many horses so she picked it up with the intentions of turning her into a barrel horse. Shipped her off to school to get acclimated to new regiment, after 90 days she returned back to the stables. My wife saw her and rode her twice and gave me the look--you know the look
...well...the rest is history. She has a great disposition, affectionate, very mild mannered and has a great spirit. I had two vets check her out, scoped and all and they both gave her a clean bill of health...very sound horse. She is ridden every other day and babied nightly...my wife now wants to breed her...not particularly for racing...(although that's on my mind), but to get another mare like this one...now I know there is no guarantee that the foal would turn out like her momma but she is excited at the prospect. This horse was taken off the track and bred to Successful Appeal in 02. She won 2 of 6 races and no reason was givin as to why she was removed...she still moves real fast and loves to "get down with it" a great big show off around the other horses. She delivered a filly 04/03 which just sold at OBS spring 05. My question is a good stallion for this horse would be...? I have my eyes on Omega Code at $7,500.00 but I am willing to go higher for the right stallion. I did notice that in 04 she was bred to Fulll Mandate but did not take...says barren. I confered with the vet and he sees no reason why she did not take. He indicated that it sometimes happens, all fertilization tests came back good...so...Anyone have any thoughts on these ramblings? Thanks very much.

Ed, if you're not that concerned with the commercial value of the foal, I would give serious consideration to a Damascus line stallion. Since the most successful offspring of Jean's Dilemma's female family was High Alexander by Zen out of Zar Alexander (out of Would You and half-sister to Would Yous Last) this is a possible nick worth investigating.
Zen is interesting in that his pedigree includes RF through the half-siblings Perfume and Ambiorix both out of the good mare Lavendula, and further, Perfume was bred back to Djebel by Tourbillon, who was also the sire of Ambiorix. This gives a high concentration of Tourbillon and Lavendula blood coming through both female families, an element I believe enhances a pedigree (from a performance and soundness standpoint).
Some suggestions? I'd take a good long look at Swiss Yodeler, a very successful sire of the Damascus line who also has a considerable dose of Tourbillon blood. One thing to look at in particular is the sex-balanced linebreeding to Raja Baba in this hypomating and if there are any examples of success in this pattern. This hypo would also give you three crosses to My Babu through the outstanding females Kerala and Missy Baba. It's unfortunate that Swiss Yodeler is on the wrong coast for this to be terribly practical for you. Crusader Sword may also be worth a look, based solely on the paper mating, but I honestly don't know if this stallion is still standing or where he's standing.
The two stallions you mentioned -- Full Mandate and Omega Code -- are both very nice stallions and I've seen both in person. Full Mandate, in particular, is physically awesome.

The horse would be bred for pleasure but would like to consider on track options...
Yes, laurie, saw Full Madate three weeks agao and he is a fine specimen, although the Nick dosnt come out to well...Omega code fairs much better as does Sucessful Apeal at A= and A++ respectfully. How much stock do you put into Nick reports? We have a training track close by although finding a trainer is another endevor in itsself. Right now just looking for good stud stock at or under 25K. Is Runder Thumble still an option for broadmare?

Crusader Sword
Found him--This stallion currently stands at Questroyal Stud, LLC for a fee of $1500. I cant get to Swiss Yodeler, (California) but can get to NY. They dont gurantee anything--your thoughts?
Time Bandit
Take a look at the young Damascus line stallion Time Bandit by Time For A Change standing in LA for $2,500.00. He is throwing some nice babies and had three sell at the Texas sale for an average of 25k+. He may be the best of both worlds a race stallion with the hunt jump blood lines you're searching to find. Nice looking stud.

Thanks
Thanks so much everyone for your help--I have been bitten. I have a couple other prospects I hope will pan out with a couple mares I hope to see soon...again thanks and I couldn't find a better place to get some "ground training" than here.

I would seriously consider Eavesdropper
I would consider Eavesdropper giving you a 4x5 cross on Missy Baba and a 4x4x5 cross on Bold Ruler.
