Mating Advice for Eavesdropper....!!!!

Postby austique » Sun Aug 28, 2005 6:29 pm

Just kidding :P Okay we bought a lifetime breeding right in Eavesdropper and lo and behold I have nothing to breed to him next year, so I am going to purchase a mare to breed to him. Can anybody suggest some lines which might work well for him to help narrow my search? I was thinking of buying a Seattle Slew line mare for him. Would I be on the right track there? Any opinions offered would be greatly appreciated.

I like the thought of a SS line mare for him, unfortunately I don't have any. Take a look at these mares' peds and see if they interest you: Eskimo Quest, Angel Brown, Worldly Afair, and Distant Fantasy.

Hi Austique,

Did you really buy a lifetime breeding right to Eavesdropper or are you just kidding? If you did, nice purchase!

Doing the inside-out on AP Indy like you're thinking of did work in Summer Squall's daughter Summerly. So it might have some promise if done correctly and if the Seattle Slew comes in the right context and from the right source.

I'll get back to you on this (BTW< are you breeding to race and how much can you spend on the mare?).

llbean,

We did indeed purchase a lifetime breeding right. Walmac offered a lovely deal and it seemed like if you were going to take a chance on one, he might be the one to do it on. Probably, we will run at least the first one. Right now we're probably going to spend around $15000 for a mare for him although we'd probably pay a little more for the right mare.

Would it be a good idea to make a list of what's working with Kingmambo and sires from the same female line (A.P. Indy, Tiger Ridge, etc.) and try to find some similarities? :?

Hi Austique,

The following message was evidently deleted when the forum went down so here it is in case you missed it:

Hi Austique,

That would probably be a good starting point. But don't just look at what the sires from the Lassie Dear line have worked with; look at what the Lassie Dear line has worked with itself (Storm Bird, Seattle Slew, Vaguely Noble, etc.).

Anyway, a KEY strain for Eavesdropper's female family is the Up The Flagpole female line that has shown such strong success with AP Indy in the GIWs Mineshaft, Tomisue's Delight, and Runup The Colors.

Also, El Prado's sire Sadlers Wells has shown a strong affinity with Eavesdropper's sire Kingmambo and interestingly enough El Prado's dam Lady Capulet was an Irish Classic Winner who crossed Tom Fool through a strong daughter with Sir Gaylord through his strongest son Sir Ivor.

This is interesting because Eavesdropper's 2nd dam Lassie Dear crosses Sir Gaylord through a very strong daughter and Tom Fool through his strongest son.

Thus crossing an El Prado mare on the stallion in question would effect the very strong Kingmambo/Sadlers Wells nick found in an amazing 3 (El Condor Pasa, Divine Proportions, and Virginia Waters) of Kignmambo's 16 total GI Winning decendants (a significantly better result than one would have expected given a detailed analysis I conducted of the Geographical concentration of Kingmambo and Sadlers Wells' GI Winners and how much they did or didn't overlap). AND, give you a very interesting reverse cross to strong ancestors (Sir Gaylord, Tom Fool) through Strong Sources (Lady Capulet and Lassie Dear).

Thank you for reposting that llbean. We're shopping along those guidelines and also looking at doing mare or foal shares.

hi austique

Re: a mare for Eavesdropper...I suggest it might be wise to select one that has some size and scope to her.

Eavesdropper is a neat and strongly-made guy...but might benefit from a mare with some length and a bit of leg under her.

I totally agree. He is a bit on the smaller side something I was a bit surprised about when I first saw him. He's a neat little package though.

I think my mare Lady Wrong Song would cross with him.

Postby Keith » Sun Sep 11, 2005 8:30 pm

I have a mare named Lady Wrong Song who is by El Prado-Wrong Song by Jeblar. Crossed with Eavesdropper I would get
4x5 Northern Dancer
4x5 Bold Ruler
4x5 Raise A Native
5x5 Tom Fool
5x5 Sir Gaylord
5x5 Special
4x6x6 Somethingroyal

I plan on breeding her next year and ideally I would love to breed her to Johar but he is out of my price range. Have you thought of a Storm Cat line mares such as mares by Forestry, Forest Wildcat, Hennessy, Stormy Atlantic, and Tale of The Cat. I would also consider Yes It's True mares as you could line breed on Missy Baba. You could also line breed Missy Baba by breeding a Tabasco Cat mare. Those are just a few thoughts. You could also line breed Lassie Dear if you were to breed a good Deerhound mare to Eavesdropper. A good Charistmatic mare may be a nice cross as you would line breed on Weekend Surprise 2x4.

Hey austique, I was searching for Eavesdropper threads because I really liked the look of him on the stallion register site and wanted to know what y'all thought.

What did you end up doing? Buying a mare (if so what breeding) or doing a foal share?

We're going to do a foal share. He's lovely in person and has a very nice attitude to boot.
