Hi:
I would like to get some other opinions (besides my own inflated one) on a future mating for the below mare. Her first foal will be born in the spring.

Thank you.

What would be a good cross
Here are some successful crosses with Marfa mares

Spirit of Love by Trempolino-Dream Mary by Marfa 2nd dam by Wajima winner of $234,699
Madam du Barri by Formal Dinner-Marvette by Marfa winner of Ontario Debutante S.
Gal On The Go by Irgun-Gypsy by Marfa winner of $222,230

Your mare's second dam Very Best Friend is the dam of Grade II Stakes Winner Vice and Friendly who is by Vice Regent. Your mare is out of a full sister to the dam of multiple stakes winner Edenwold who has done well as a two year old this year winning the Colin S. and the Vandale S. He is by Southern Halo.

Tumblebrutus will not be coming back to the U.S. in 2006 or probably ever. He's got uh...issues.
I would second Kafwain with the two crosses of Raise A Native your mare already has you probably don't want to add another strain and Kafwain is free of any Raise A Native. He's big, good-looking and his first foals have been really nice and have sold well. His female family leaves a little to be desired, but he was a talented racehorse and I think he'll get some exceptional foals. That being said I have a mare in foal to him, so I'm a little biased

Marfa produced superior nicks with mares that traced to the sire line of (Fair Play) Marfa produced 8 winners with 10 (Fair Play) mares.
Marfa produced superior nicks with mares that traced to the sire line of (Peter Pan) Marfa produced 6 winners with 6 (Peter Pan) mares.
Marfa produced superior nicks with mares that traced to the sire line of (Prince Rose) Marfa produced 10 winners with 14 (Prince Rose) mares.
Marfa produced inferior nicks when bred to the sire lines of (Dark Ronald) and (Teddy) Marfa was 4-12 with (Dark Ronald) and 3-11 with (Teddy)
Seek a stallion that has the combo of the superior nicks and you will be going with the % that Marfa nicked with. Good Luck.

Haidf, in Texas, would give you Clever Trick (who crossed close up with Mining in the Multiple G1W Roamin Rachel).
Semoran, in Oklahoma, gives you Clever Trick and a cross of The Mistrel, a 3/4 brother of Nijinsky (who combined with Foolish Pleasure in the G1Ws Beautiful Pleasure, Mecke, and Bullish Luck).
Of course, The Minstrel and his 3/4 brother were two horses who, like all different horses, had different genotypes. But it's not like your giving me too many stallions to choose from given the Geographic Limitations...
Wait a minute! It just came to me...
Announce is by Forty Niner (a stallion who VERY much likes returns of Mr Prospector as evidenced by the G1 Winners Commentator, Society Selection, Flower Alley, and Fourty Niner's Son) and out of a mare by Nijinsky (who has combined so well with Foolish Pleasure in Beautiful Pleasure, Mecke, and Bullish Luck).
Also, the 2nd dam of Announce is Monarchy, who combined with your mare's sire Marfra in the G2W Cobra King from very little oppurtunity..

This is one reason why I have a problem with pedigree research like this. You want to pull names out of a pedigree that agrees with your theory, but you could also say that Forty Niner could be working off of returns of Northern Dancer, as Commentator, Society Selection, and Flower Alley are out of mares by Storm Bird, Dixieland Band, and Flower Alley is out of a Lycius mare (Mr. P out of a Lyphard mare). So maybe it isnt Mr. P after all, maybe its ND. Distorted Humor also produced Sensibly Shic out of a Hero's Honor mare (ND)(No Mr. P).
