I fount TOMAHAWK, by Seattle Slew out of Statuette
from the same female line of Valubid
but don't know where he is located.
I'd select brilliant stallions, because, despite of DI = 3.40, Valubid has a lot of stamina in the pedigree.
Also I feel she could do better with a ND-free sire.

1) Gold Legend Texas
2) Leestown LA
3) Time Bandit LA

1st two are Slew line Stallions, Time Bandit is Damascus line.

Postby stcath95 » Mon Nov 28, 2005 10:27 am

I love the stallion, TOMAHAWK...but he is in Canada...24 hours one way ....keep the great information coming....is there a breeding page where I can insert the stallion and the mare for breeding and see the hypothetical results.(free)...I see these guys win race's but I wish I could find the race/ distance/time/final position/......I am sure there is a resource I could get to for this information but not having any luck..There is a stallion here in Kentucky I like called "Rocking Trick"...any comments !?...Thanks

ROCKING TRICK

Postby hpkingjr » Mon Nov 28, 2005 1:15 pm

There have been extensive posts and analysis on Rocking Trick here on the board. Do a word search and you will pull up his threads. There is also an article on Pedigree Post that you might find of interest. I have personally been to the farm to see Rocking Trick and he is an impressive physical speciman with great bone, a tremendous chest, big rear end, in short, appearance wise he's what you would expect a multiple grade 1 inner to look like. I would encourage you to travel to the farm to check him out before you make a final decision.

hi stcath95

I understand that you intend to spend "$5,000 fee tops" (your words) on a stud fee for the mare that you leased, Valubid (by Spectacular Bid).

You might consider the following, despite the fact that the Kentucky stallions that I reference below are advertised for in excess of $5k. Who knows, maybe you could acquire a season for less.

Zavata in Ky (for $7,500) has a powerhouse body and a massive hip...and he could fly. He might not translate to the turf or offer the stamina that you might be looking for (he seemed to hit a wall at 6 1/2 furlongs)...but I expect that he would inject some serious speed and might get you a very good looking foal.

Also in Ky is Cactus Ridge (at $6,500). He was an undefeated 2-yo and did win the G3-Arlington-Washington Futurity, contested at a mile. I cannot vouch for him physically...but he seems to be interesting.

Silver Ghost (at $7,500 for 2006) has his temperment issues etc...but could be worthy of consideration. He has certainly sired some very good racehorses.

There are a number of stallions in Florida that I believe bring plenty to the table. For starters, I believe that Indian Ocean offers a lot (for $4,000) and could get you both speed and stamina. He is very athletic looking...extremely well made and correct...broke his maiden going 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:14 and change...and won a G3 (over Buzzards Bay etc) at a mile and a sixteenth in 1:42 and change. I sense he could be special. Another Florida stallion that satisfies your $5,000 stud fee cap and could also be special is Full Mandate. He is advertised at $5,000 (for 2006), and has received HUGE support. He recently had a $170k weanling sell at Keeneland. Another young stallion in Florida that seems to have gotten some good support (although he never won a stakes race) is Drewman. I have difficulty in recommending a horse that did not win a stakes race, but Drewman (at the price) might be worth your consideration. He stands for $2,500 and is a big good looking Unbridled.

My experience with Spectacular Bid mares is that for the most part they're not particularly strongly made...often lean toward 'weedy' looking...and can use some help in the bone category.

I expect that ultimately you will find an interesting mate for your mare...but arguably a $5,000 limit on the stud fee increases the difficulty of the task.

Good luck in your search.

Respectfully

If you are looking for a Texas bred, I like the Northern Dancer line stallions for your mare. Your mares pedigree seems to shout out for some Northern Dancer blood. If Manzotti was still active, I'd say that Nijinsky line here in Texas might be worth a look - but he is not available.

I am pleased with fillies and colts that I've had from Once A Sailor.
I've never understood why Once A Sailor has not been offered more mares - he is an excellent physical specimen with a good demeanor. He goes to a new home this year, so maybe he'll get more action.

The Cooks, who own Once A Sailor and Dixieland Heat, have moved Dixieland Heat from La to the same stallion farm - Q6 Ranch. He would be worth a look.

Byars, a Deputy Minister line stallion - has found a new home this year at Crooks Farm here in Tx. Another ND line stallion Open Forum stands at Lanes End - and he is a perennially on the leading Texas sire list.

Hi Kenny,

Knew I recognized your mares name! I own her mother (Val du Neuf)!

Any chance you 'd have pics of Valubid? Would love to see her!

As for my Val, if your mare is built anything like Val, she's a TANK. Val is coming 20 this year, pretty much blind in both eyes, but a real joy to own! Val holds a *special* place in my heart - I saved her from the meatman last year.

This pic was taken last year just after I brought her home from the killpen-

OK, now I'm trying to figure out why I know that name... is that the same Stormin Norman who was being trained by Michael Richardson at one time, do you know? This is going to drive me crazy...

spectacular bid mares crossed very well with silver deputy, and i think you should try to get a deal with posse. i think you have a realistic shot getting posse for around 5K, given the demand for him of late
