Wondering about thoughts on the breeding of Real ROmance to Gun Power....too much RAN? Any commercial prospect in it? THanks in advance.

Breeding a mare who never hit the board to a stallion who never raced....I think too much RAN should be the least of your concerns.

ok......point taken. But I didn't think there were other major "concerns" in breeding her? Honestly though, I hadn't realised at that point that he had never run. I liked what I saw, is all.

There's an joke told about an old Welshman (or Irishman) who is asked directions by a traveller and after many permutations of muttering possible ways to get to the destination the Welshman looks up and says..

"T'would be better if ye didn't stat from here!"

Real Romance isn't a commercial mare and might only be several years in the future if she produces SWs first. She might have better value breeding sport horses, but she won't have any commercial appeal as a TB racehorse mare. It's harder to sell yearlings in Canada than in KY.

JC Bloodstock wrote a wonderful post (recent thread) about the vagaries of the commercial TB market in Minnesota (or other small markets) that you should read. There's simply no reason to swin up stream.

If you're breeding to race it's a different matter but in all cases you shouldn't be worried about the mating looking appealing on paper - it's unimportant.

There's a stallion that I would recommend looking into - although he might be on the west coast named AMARUK.

A son of Wolf Power, not a fashionable sire line, but he's done well with ordinary mares from a limited number of foals. More importantly the breeding is an outcross through 5 generations and this sire line tends to add good structure, bone and flesh. Look at his earnings from only a few foals - not bad. He's also cheap

You're probably aware that Rel Romance traces female tail to the foundation mare Blue Denim with many generations in between and no quality running mares. Something's preventing Romance's family from running well and that would need to be addressed if you want to race the foal.

Your mare's dam sire is Native Charger whose blood is very hard to integrate over the last decade. You need to leverage Discovery and use stallions that can accept Hyperion.

Trajectory is a sire that I've recommended several times in the past and he's living up to some expectation. Not as cheap and frankly he'll not complete a genetic puzzle, but he is the best potential for a commercial foal I can think of at a reasonable price in Canada.

Randy Regent is another that should be able to handle the Hyperion and brings in Discovery. Bold Ruler and Native Dancer are both out of Discovery mares and are now working well together when they didn't 15 years ago. Wild Again and Northern Dancer are 2 sire lines that like Hyperion.

He is by Geiger Counter, a potential sire of sires.
Realizes e linebreeding to the reine Blue Denim.
But stands in CA...
