Silver Deputy and Tabasco Cat mare recommendations

Postby Eap » Sat Jan 21, 2006 3:25 pm

We purchased a Tabasco Cat and Silver Deputy mare at the OBS sale. The Silver Deputy was a last minute acquisition that took me by surprise, even had to get a new buying agent since mine left the growns.

The Tabasco Cat mare, Winter Spaces, is a very nice mare with a great hip and shoulder. She is built very strongly and has a Storm Cat look about her. She seems to be slightly offset on the right side with a slightly longish neck and a very feminine head. She's infoal to Meadowlake on an early cover.

We're looking to race the fillies and sell the colts. So a stallion would need to be commercial enough to make a profit but also have a good oppurtunity to sire quality runners (if not already proven). I would be looking to breed in Kentucky or Florida and would also be open to suggestions in other regional markets if the fit is right. Fees appropriate up to 40k.

I've been looking at Pleasant Tap for her. He's a great value at stud and brings in another direct line to La Troienne. He also is an outcross for her since she's already inbred to Raise a Native which im not always a fan of.

I like the linebreeding with Doneraile Court but im not sure I like him a stallion and im not sure he would hold much commercial credibility by the time the foal is a yearling.

A Monarchos cross doesnt bother me. The third inclusion of Raise a Native would be added in the 6th generation and im starting to see some of his colts turn it on on the track. His sire Maria's Mon would be interesting but I dont like Raise a Native 3 times over in the first 5 all through sons. Although if im ok with RAN in the 6th I should be ok with him in the 5th.

Offlee Wild intrigues me by his pedigree but im not sure how well they'll sell. Anyone seen him?

Royal Academy is a very interesting cross but im not sure he's bringing in good prices at the sales any more and also, has inbreeding to Crimson Saint been a success?

Stephen Got Even seems to get one good colt a crop. How has the market been toward his yearlings? I remember his first crop two year olds were hot but his yearlings werent selling as well.

Touch Gold is a possible and I heard they're willing to drop him down a few k. But I dont remember many high priced yearlings by him recently.

The Silver Deputy mare, Globalizer is not infoal. So she can be covered right away. The same restraints apply to her in breeding goal and fees. I havent really thought of stallions for her yet since she was a last minute acquisition.

She's a medium sized mare that is very "pretty" and "feminine". She has good bone but is slight in appearance. She has no glaring comformational problems although I would like to add a little more shoulder to her.

All comments and thoughts are much appreciated!

Hey Eap,

Welcome to the board!I dont have any mating recommendations for you however i noticed that Globalizer is a half sister to a horse named Coup Fizzles who was a cool old timer that competed at my local track in his elder years.Heres a quote from a web site

"Coup Fizzles won his last start as a twelve-year-old ! Soon afterward he was retired a winner and began his new carreer as a racetrack pony horse in 2003. Life on the farm bored the old campaigner and he is enjoying being back at the track."

Unfortunatly he died of colic in 2004.

If your ever wanting to sell one of the youngings let me know because i may know an interested buyer.

Regards,
Ryeno
