Siphon! We had one in training with us. Lovely filly. Big, intellegent. Looked like a 4yo when she was a yearling.

My brother actually quit training before we got to start her but she won at least three races for her owners. She was a later maturing filly who liked a route of ground. She was the laziest horse in training, but I watched several of her races and she ended up a front end type of horse. Just goes to show you never know until they run.

My mare matches (by Werk) well but I was afraid of his size. She has a hard time - her last foal was hip locked and both very big fillies even though Patton is not big. Siphon on the other hand looks huge up close. I need to stick with smaller stallions for her.

I would skip Siphon then. The filly we had was huge not just height wise but girth as well.

Has anyone seen Siphon's foals? I assume the are large and well developed as they are selling well. He doesn't seem to be improving his mares though.

That would be interesting to go look at his foals arriving now before deciding. I don't think he throws ENORMOUS foals though but he is a tank. Very well built, just a stunning horse in person. Real Quiet is certainly much narrower and not as "pretty" but he could sure run a bit! Don't know how they compare in actual runners though.

Siphon's first crop of yearlings sold well, as they were big and looked the part. Then he had a few good runners, and the price went through the roof.
Since then - nothing. He's been shipped of to Pennsylvania, where he's going to stand for $4,000. Ironically, you could have bought a share in him at the Keeneland January sale for $1,500.

They're both standing in PA for $6,500 - not $4,000.

There is a story behind those shares sold at Keeneland in Siphon. Very high maintenence fees was the rumor. He just had another Grade 1 winner in November, I'm The Tiger. He is one of those stallions who gets some big winners, but not a lot of mid to lower end winners. Still a great value in my opinion. That's why his two year olds sell so well.

I was gonna be all helpful on the size issue and suggest Rahy, then went 'duh, probably way too expensive' and then tried to be creative and suggest Bop who's at the same farm as Black Tie Affair in West Virginia. Only thing is the foal'd be 4 x 4 Mr. Prospector but lots of Mr P mares went to Rahy. Bop entered stud in 2004 and is $2500 which doesn't exacty reek of high class stud but just thought I'd bring him up.

How big is Bop? I just assumed he wasn't exactly huge being a son of Rahy. I realize he doesn't speak to other things someone might desire in a stud but he has other pluses.

Edited: to say that I totally spaced out and didn't realize btcountess has already got Bop on the radar based on another thread from a couple weeks ago. I just now did a Bop search to see what else'd been said on him here. He's a cutie. Is this a different mare from before? I thought Inner Harbour was selected. Like I said, if size's is an issue, factoring in Rahy's a thought.
