I have two mares who were bred for speed. I am hoping to find a stallion there who can take his speed up to a mile. I can povide a list of the stallions in Barbados if you can help me.

The mares are Catalina and Silhouette both locally bred and, are in the database.
Some of the stallions are Blast of Storm, Wertz,Pen in Hand,Zwick,Southern Glory,Feet on Flames,Captain Charlie,Surya Bhagwan,Janak and Kit Fisto.
I will be very happy for any help.

I believe Pentilicus was a miler and had some speed. He stood in florida before he passed away, maybe a Florida member can confirm.

From the database comments it looks as though Pen in Hand was handed down this speed.

Blast of Storm looks to be a good choice also. 3 years in a row sounds like a Barbados Triple Crown.

I also like Wertz, but I have no idea if he was the miler you desire or not.

If you desire to breed mares to different stallions I like Catlina2/Pen in Hand, and then Silouhette7 to Wertz or Blast of Storm.

Just opinions looking at pedigrees. Would be intesrested to know what you finally decide. Good luck.

I have one question. Why wouldn't you take Catalina back to Captain Charlie - the sire of her best offspring to date, a multiple stakes winner in Barbados (if I understand the races won correctly)? Not questioning your breeding goal - just trying to understand it. I mean what's the point of trying to get a bit more distance in her foals when she's been successful as a producer as I understand it of a MSW sprinter.

Catalina is not a young mare and if after several breedings it's clear that she tends to throw speedy offspring I'd go with the flow and try to get one that's as good or even better than her best to date.

You have made a good point, I understand the offspring of that stallion appear difficult to keep injury free.
