What do people think/know about inbreeding to BG, it would be in 3x4. Does size matter ! My mare is on the small size but the stallion is over 16.1. Any examples of it working ? It's not that close up so is it even worth considering ? All opinions welcome.

Hi Sheikh,
What's the name of your mare? And who will be the ''lucky one''?

Hi, the mares name is Wonder bell, she was no star, but was a winner on the flat and placed over hurdles.A training accident curtailed her flat career, she was starting to strenghten and I reckon she would have been rated in the low 80's. She had heart and a turn of foot. Her pedigree is not flash either. She has a correct and strong Fath yearling and is due to Touch of the blues. I was considering Croco Rouge for her to add some size and hope for a filly.I know there was a nick with Storm bird and blushing groom. Obviously I'm not breeding commercially.

I know one combination who turned out just fine, our horse of the year Cool Concept is by Rossini (Miswaki) out of a daughter of Magical Wonder (see the query). Your mare was in training with Michael Halford, who trains at the Curragh, I met him once on a holiday. Do you live near the Curragh and do you know Michael Grassick? Just wondered, kind regards, Erin

I looked at sons of Mr P but Wb's legs are only alright so good legs on a stallion are a must. We've been with Mick H for a while I don't know Michael Grassick butt he trains close to Mich H and is a good trainer too.I ive in wicklow about 50 mins from the Curragh.

Hi Sheikh,

Inbreeding to Blushing Groom looks really rotten according to the Ventura GeoScore as it's VGS is only 0.12 based on only 1 G1W (Footstepsinthesand).

The average VGS is 1.00 so this is absolutely awful, quite frankly, even when we account for Breeders avoiding inbreeding and that reducing the VGSs on crosses involving inbreeding.

For instance, Mr Prospector was born three years AFTER Blushing Groom (therefore Mr P's closer in pedigrees and the chances are that inbreeding to him is avoided MORE than inbreeding to BG) and yet he gets a VGS of 0.37 (or a little more than 3 times the VGS on Blushing Groom inbreeding).

Perhaps people have a inexplicable hatred of inbreeding to Blushing Groom that exceeds their reluctance to inbred to Mr P; but I very much doubt it and I can't recommend inbreeding to Blushing Groom through any sources save possibly Giant's Casueway and Rainbow Quest based on the available information.

More info on the Ventura GeoScore can be found here www.venturageoscore.com .
