help please!!

Postby hes my boy » Sat Mar 18, 2006 5:29 pm

Hi there I am fairly new at this and was wondering If I used "So urgent " as a sire to "call me abby". If anyone has any advise on either of these horses it would be much appreciated.
thanks Lindsay

It's hard to find anythig on Call Me Abby. Is she unraced? If unraced, WHY? Her dam is 1/2 to Devil His Due, so I see your thinking with bringing in Devil's Bag w/So Urgent. Is So Urgent a new sire? If not, are there any stats on him?

Does So Urgent possess the class, soundness, versatility, physical compatibility/conformation compatibility with your mare that you are looking for? First look at the potential mare and stallion. If they match well in all the important areas, then look at the rest of the pedigree. The one thing I do see is a very unexciting Dosage Profile and a very low GSV score. What are you trying/hoping to achieve in running style/distance and class?

Hi thankyou so much for your reply. Yes So urgent actually has not sired before, he last raced in 05, I believe nothing in 06, as he has a pulled check ligament at the moment. I am trying to get him healed as fast as possible. I hate seeing my boy in discomfort. As for abby she was never raced or even attempted to race. She is a very solid girl just like her mother ( plentyo woman). As for breeding the two of them I would like to see it at the track, but just wanted some input on it. So Urgent is a beautiful horse and I am hopfull and confident that he will produce the same in his offspring. I am new at this so I am wondering what you were talking about with their numbers?
thanks again
Lindsay

So Urgent was certainly an expensive purchase as a yearling ($280K against a $7500 stud fee). He must be a very nice horse. Do you plan to return him to the racetrack?

It takes quite a special horse to have one who learns to breed a mare and then returns to his normal work. It can be quite a mind-changing experience for most stallions.

BJ was listing the APR entry for your mare, I believe. If you are breeding to race, it is an interesting cross, it is impossible to comment further as both horses have not produced anything yet. However, your mare's dam is half sister to Devil His Due and the stallion's sire is by Devil's Bag so there's something to consider.

Hi, Thankyou for your input. Well I dont think that I will race him due to his injury and age. I will just let him retire from that but would love to breed him. Because he has not before I wanted to try him to abby and see what they throw. I think the two are a good cross. If anyone would like to try him contact me at [email protected] or [email protected]. As for if anyone has any more input it is greatly appreciated, this is my first time doing this much reaserch on breeding so thankyou!!!! :D

Ah. Well just another tiny thought for you. Since Abby has never bred, and neither has So Urgent, it might be wise for you to look for another mare to breed first to So Urgent, one of the hussy-types who has been covered and had foals and will firmly teach him which end of the mare to be on. I can think of nothing more physically difficult and frustrating than trying to get a maiden stallion on top of a maiden mare, with both of them equally baffled. Plus maiden mares usually will lean nearly their entire weight on whoever is holding them :D

Don't most men?

I think the pedigrees match well with what worked to creat Devil His Due, with Abby's female line in the past. You have good things to work with if they match physically and neither has serious conformation issues.

Madelyn's advice is good advice. She has her own stallion/breeding operation, herself.

You could also check with another gal in Washington. She just got the stallion Top Account. http://news.bloodhorse.com/viewstory.asp?id=32666 She could give you some great advice too. Her board ID is "EO". Or, you could PM me any questions and I'll email them to her.

How did you end up with the stallion, "So Urgent" all the way from California?

Best of luck to you!

BJ

Thankyou very much BJ I hope all works out too! Good for you Madelyn you must be very proud!! As for So Urgent I fell in love with him and ended up buying him. As for breedign him this year I might not. Here people like to breed a little earlier in the season, and if he doesn't have a few babies in the sale next year I dont know how that would look for him as no one would know that he began late this year for stud. What do you guys think? Unless the yearling was sold to the States that might be a different story?
thanks to all again

Electrocutionist, winner of the Dubai Cup last Sunday, has two foals, colts, by the same dam. I don't know if 2 times in 2 years would "take the edge off" or not. It might actually improve performance - on the track that is. Maybe the Arabs are on to something here.

No he doesn't. Some evildoer has been putting fake foals in the database again.

The 'dam' of those phonies was Makybe Diva, who wasn't retired until last year....and being in Australia, won't be having her first foal until late summer or early fall.
