Mare Evaluation

Postby Sleepy Fox » Thu Apr 27, 2006 12:31 pm

Would appreciate any input on the mare Dovenos (Dove Hunt - Pill Dispenser, Pillager) 2000.
Winner at 2 and earned $11k (very limited starts) racing for Will Farish. Her 2004 Cat Thief RNA'd at $9k at KeeSep. On the plus side, she is big and one of the best looking mares I know.
We breed to race and also sell commercially. Wondering if we should keep breeding her or if we should commit her to being a sport horse/sport horse broodmare. Thanks!

Regarding this particular mare, I believe $10K for a stud fee is VERY MUCH overbreeding her... which is probably evidenced by the $9K RNA. As a breed to race mare, perhaps shopping in the $3-5K range might be better for these purposes. She needs a serious infusion of speed.. I also do not think Cat Thief was a suitable match for her at all. She might be best with an In Reality line, or Icecapade.. but not Storm Cat. Just my opinion.
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....
