When analyzing a stallion with less that 100 starters (ie Unusual Heat, Muqtarib, Perfect Mandate), you have to ask yourself if you are looking at the next Mr Prospector or a statistical abnormality. To the credit of Unusual Heat, he's done it with different mares and his median runner has had some quality. It will be interesting if he can keep it up.

Take away High Fly and Atticus has been a disaster. He reminds me a little of Our Emblem after Claiborne got rid of him. Sure he did sire a Derby winner, but that didn't fool people and his stud fee has been dropped and the ads practically beg breeders to consider him. If High Fly drops out of the picture and Atticus doesn't come up with a second act, all of those mares flocking to him this season will go somewhere else.

I too did look at Rhythm. I agree on the bloodlines as so did kentuky for awhile. This board helped point out that alot of nice mares were breed to him without the great results. SO I had to give more redit to the stallions will good blood that were breed to lesser mares and still got some runners. Just a thought.

I have posted before and said That I am a big Fan of Game Plan.. In Wa.ST. his foals sell good.. Not sure what kind of mares he has seen since being in Cal.. His best runner Bold Ranger was a multiple stakes winner in wa st. and 3 year old champion. Bold Ranger went to s cal. and beat Joey Franko,Gibson county, Waingarth, American System, Hasty Kris, Ride and Shine, Metatron and gold dollar in an 6.5 furlong allow. race. He was getting ready for a graded stakes and was injured in a workout.. I always have to wonder if Bold Ranger would have got a chance and done well in a graded stakes what kind of mares Game Plan would be getting now.. Sure could use him back in Wash State.. At least it would work good for me since I own his female family..

top california stallions

In Excess is California's top stallion. He would be a top stallion anywhere. In my opinion the best stallion bang for the buck is Swiss Yodeler. All his babies can run, have speed and he sires allowance/stakes performers. There tough too.

Thanks for bringing Swiss Yodelers to light, Zinn. I must admit to a certain bias in generally ignoring stallions with stupid names. Not wise, I know, and a bad prejudice for a TB breeder to have. Swiss Yodeler has a very intriguing pedigree that's right in line with some research I'm doing and you can bet I'll be paying a LOT more attention in the future. :D
