hi aurora

You wrote "A comparison of Kafwain and Yonaguska shows that Yonaguska is a G1 stakes winner and that both his 1st and 2nd dam are multiple stake producers."

Yonaguska's record shows that he Dead-Heated in a G1 (The Hopeful...dead-heating with City Zip). You'll find that in many racing circles, particularly accross the pond, such a dead-heat for win is considered 1/2 a win not a win per se. If you'll refer to numerous catalogues (again, accross the pond) you'll find that historically that's how such a result (Dead-Heat) has been catalogued. Regardless...in the U.S.A. those that Dead-Heat in a race are often marketed as winning that race...hmmm.

I suggest that Kafwain's win in the 1 1/16th mile G2-Norfolk Stakes and then second place finish to champion Vindication in the G1-Breeders' Cup Juvenile (going 1 1/8 miles) exposed a versatility that I suggest outshines Yonaguska's. I don't recall Yonaguska winning beyond seven furlongs...ever.

Although Yonaguska's pedigree might appeal more to some than Kafwain's...I suggest that Kafwain was the more brilliant and versatile race horse.

Respectfully

Thanks, all, that is just the kind of thoughtful discussion I was looking for.

Vinery has Trust N Luck listed at 6500 for 06. I assume they lowered due to the arrival of Chapel Royal. That was a good move. Trust N luck is a great looking, precocious, son of Montbrook from a great family that could run a hole in the wind. But maybe the drop means they didnt get the mares for him this year. What does everyone else think?

The more I look at Trust N Luck the more I like him. I like him a lot at $6500. He was a solid racehorse from a nice female family. I haven't seen him in person yet, so I'll reserve comment there

the debate between Trust N Luck and Chapel Royal is going to be interesting. If it wasnt for Coolmore and their connections, i think Trust N Luck would have a better oppotunity. Dont get me wrong, i love Chapel Royal. I would kill to get to one of these two. But IMO Trust N Luck is a better value. He could take it a mile and longer, kind of out of the Montbrook ordinary. And breeders in KY are looking for fast milers. Chapel Royal should have stayed in Florida. He could barely get 7 furlongs. But when running 6 he could beat just about anybody. Trust N Luck was a great race horse with distance though. That is what I am looking for in my selection for a rac prospect. And I think he will have the commercial side to him also. He is a good looking horse.

Trust N Luck gets that extra distance from his female line. His family gets the big horse quite regularly, usually on a route on the lawn. His damsire also liked the long routes over turf. Montbrook put the brilliant speed over the distance. Trust N Luck was never tried on grass, but given that family I wonder if he might get some babies who would just shine on grass.

I never even thought about his babies running on grass. I do have some thoughts about racing in Europe also, so maybe he might be the stallion I need. Has anyone seen if has the turf type feet?

Actually I had heard that Trust N Luck was having pretty big fertility problems. Which may be why they are bringing in Chapel Royal. They can "switch" mares to him....

I talked to the stallion manager at Vinery and he said that Trust N Luck was bred to 70 mares in 05 with 86% conception rate. So no fertility problems. He did say that price decrease was due to Chapel Royal coming in. Ashford stole a lot of Trust N Luck mares for Chapel Royal
