I've seen sarcasm start a lot of fights on these boards...it's kind of hard to read sarcasm since it is usually detected by a vocal mannerism.

Real Quiet's stats:

2005 (last season in KY) covered 14 mares, 7 foals reported
2006 (1st season in PA) covered 68 mares

Real Quiet is a solid sire that I think was lost in the shuffle in KY -- I hope he will continue to prosper in PA!

Real Quiet at Pin Oak

Postby KBEquine » Sun Nov 12, 2006 2:10 pm

Just saw Real Quiet & most of the other stallions this afternoon at the farm's stallion showing. [Siphon's still in South America but due back next month]. We're hoping to look at Siphon & get a 2nd look at Real Quiet, once Siphon's back.

This farm has been around & standing stallions for years & seems to handle them well. I wouldn't be afraid to send a mare here to any of the stallions who happen to match her.

RQ Daughter Wins 3rd G1

Postby cewright » Mon Jan 29, 2007 10:57 am

"Even-money choice Pussycat Doll, returning from a layoff of nearly nine months, proved anything but vulnerable with her third grade I win in the $250,000 Santa Monica Handicap at Santa Anita Sunday. "

"Pussycat Doll last ran in the seven-furlong Humana Distaff Handicap (gr. I) May 6 when she defeated a red-hot Behaving Badly at Churchill Downs by one length. It was only her second start of the 2006 campaign. She also won Santa Anita's La Brea (gr. I) at seven-eighths against 3-year-old fillies in December 2005. Each win followed long layoffs."

This RQ daughter seems to take long layoffs between races. Is it a soundness issue or is Baffert merely being very selective in where she runs?

Oops sorry cewright. I started a thread on Pussycat Doll before I read this one. Word is that she needed a 'freshening' (per. Thoroughbred Times report), although that was a pretty long freshening. Glad to see both Pussycat Doll (a winner) and Wonder Lady Anne L (third) back after long layoffs. Wonder Lady Anne L didn't seem to like Saratoga from what I remember, and lost quite a bit of weight there, so it took a while to bring her back.

Two fabulous Real Quiet sons, both ex-Baffert trainees, raced up here at Hastings the last few years and were quite impressive, Bull Ranch and Quiet Cash. Not too sure about Bull Ranch, but I know Quiet Cash had minor aches and pains last year, so he was lightly raced. His trainer said he was taking a lot longer at bouncing back after his races, because he was really hard on himself.
I am a big fan of Real Quiet, because he was a real athlete and outran his flaws. He may not have the soundest offspring, but neither do some of the top KY stallions. Real Quiet gets runners.[/i]

Yes Cree, after Real Quiet was mentioned again recently on a couple of threads, I watched some of his races on youtube. I didn't live in the States during his track career so this was the first time I had seen him race. He sure was a fighter with heart in spades. Even if headed he never seemed to give up.

Midnight Lute is another Real Quiet son who came back again after a long layoff and is doing very well. He raced quite a bit last year and has already gone a couple of times this year. He is still o.k. as I just got a workout notice for him.

Real Quiet's offspring might not be the soundest but they do seem to come back from injury if looked after and they seem to maintain their heart and desire to race. By all accounts Pussycat Doll was the class of her field on Sunday.

And now Quiet Cash may be the first Real Quiet son at stud?

His stallion page can be found at www.cthsbc.org

I can't help but think that perhaps Baffert's sarcasm and jokieness during RQ's racing career--calling him "The Fish" and whatnot and using him as an example of "bad" conformation in a widely distributed video--put a damper on his stallion career. Making stallions is an exercise in salesmanship. I notice I've never heard Baffert quite as critical of one since.
