Yep...I did mean Pleasant Tap. Oops! LOL!

Maven, I imagine he's had his share of Storm Cat blood over the years - every Pleasant Colony line stallion has. Gimme a break!

There have been 4 Storm Cat line mares sent to Pleasant Tap according to this database.

One is the multiple winner Pleasant Patter out of a Mountain Cat mare (far from Storm Cat's best son).

One is a winner in her only start so far, an 05 named Indian Nation out of a Storm Cat mare.

One other is an 07 foal.

So, he obviously hasn't been sent a lot of Storm Cat blood, and as it sits, from horses of racing age, 2/3's are winners.

i just took a very brief glance over his progeny and I gotta tell you.. I didn't find very many Storm Cat's in there, or horses with storm cat blood. I'm sure there are some.. the only one I really found was Pleasant Patter.. and he made enough to pay the feed bill at 60K

the best crosses (again, a 5 mintue glance) seem to be horses are mares that have seattle slew blood and Dixieland Band mares.... I personally love Dixieland band as a broodie sire. He's the Damesire of Street Sense as well, as I am sure most of you know

Dixieland Band is one of the early sires that made Lanes End what it is today.

If I had a Slew City Slew mare, i'd send her to him. It gives you a very balanced pedigree with inbreeding to Double Jay, Never Bend, and the rare Sunrise Flight.

His only offspring from this cross is My Chickadee who I know quite well. Gorgeous, big filly that is a very good runner for the Kings. She's in a G3 this weekend.

I'd also send him anything with Lalun and Grey Flight blood, which is the reasoning for two of my breed to race mares going to him.

I've never understood the commercial market...I truly DON'T understand it. But its tendencies are often our gain for people who want a race horse and don't have the stomach for the really big stud fees. So what if PT's foals don't get going until 3...they can still run, plus he gets a high percentage of graded stakes and elite-type race horses from mares often not in his league...he is high on my list for breed-to-race, and I am thankful he is $15k.

I think the commercial market is dictated, at least now, by horses who produce fast (recoup of funds) and have appeal to other people so the possibility they can be retired to stud. In other words, the greater ROI in ALL, the higher the value.. which is silly because to me you can't put the hroses on one hand that are proven better soun sires.. all for the price of a new kia

lol, they go about as fast

From a recent communication with Lane's End regarding Pleasant Tap

"although he stands for $15,000 this year, I believe it likely that the fee will increase for next year. ....(2008 fees will be set in October)"

It'll be a tough sell for those who have patronized him for many years. Put in a tough spot and forced to sell, you cant make money off a yearling if he's more than 15k.

Unless Pleasant Tap foals figure out a way to grow another hand by the time they're sold, the high end commercial crowd will never go for him.
