Leveeguy

I made an appointment for 1:00 PM this Sunday [tomorrow] and you are welcome to join me at Northview. I'm going to Pin Oak lane after Northcview to take a look at Siphon and then to look at a boarding farm west of gettysburg.

What did you think of him after seeing him? I'll try to post some pictures of my Domestic Dispute weanling but, from all I've seen and heard, Domestic Dispute's foal all look like their sire - big, chestnut, with lots of chrome.

He's a big, correct, good looking stallion. They have him at 16.1 hh but I think he is at least 15.3 hh.

I also looked at Dance With Ravens and while he does not have Domestic Dispute's size and bulk I really like his momma.

I also visited Siphom n at Pin Oak lane who is built a lot like Domestic Dispute.

His best yearling sold for $240k and was out of a mare named Blue Slip.

She has a 7/1/3/0 and won $9,770/ Her sire is a Raise A Native son I've never hears of and her dam won $4,540 and produced no black type

Blue Slip did produce two ungraded stakes horses.

Domestic Dispute's sales results are an aberation for a regional freshman sire. Usually, they don't bring anything until they run. Remember when Malibu Moons were going for $3,000 - 4,500, despite their good looks? That said, DD is a gorgeous stallion, and he is stamping his get hard. His weanlings sold very well last December, and buyers liked the yearlings a lot. Next year he will have 2 year olds. so this is a "Bubble Year" for him. If they run, you're golden, but if they don't . . . oh well, you'll still have a pretty yearling!

In the Midlantic area, the commercial sires are Not For Love and Two Punch. Both are proven from regional broodmares, and can help you prove your mare. I don't think Siphon's two year old numbers are going to hold up. Generally speaking, stallions relocating from Kentucky to PA are commercially dead. Fantasticat is good looking Storm Cat son with the race record and pedigree, but the farm he stands at does not have a track record of commercial success. Check out sales prices for Seeking Daylight and Rock Slide. They will have to run at two to be commercial. Oratory has gotten some good looking babies, and I think he might be commercial. I'm waiting to see how the Dance With Ravens weanlings do. He has the pedigree and the looks, but so did Crowd Pleaser . . . and those were never commercial.

Good luck and let us know what you decide!

Siphon had some good numbers during his Kentucky days, but he's really dragged his mares down, and I'd be shocked if the numbers hold up for his PA-conceived foals. I agree Domestic Dispute or Oratory might be better candidates for a commercial foal. I also like Pies Prospect in PA, though I'm biased since I work with Fox Tale on their marketing and pedigrees.

Bargain Blueblood....How is Smart Guy doing? He is one I've been hoping does well as I'm a fan of Smarten and he did not have many sons at stud.

Are y'all expecting Gators and Bears first crops to be commercial regionally?

I expect Dances With Ravens to be commercial based on two things:

1. Pedigree
2. The coattails of Smart Strike.

Smart Strike is a whisker away from leading the general sires list. Had Curlin won the Haskell, he would be on top. Provided Smart Strike keeps up that kind of production, Dances With Ravens will get a boost.

Domestic Dispute is a very good looking stallion.

However, to me he looks more like a Dutch Warm Blood than a Thoroughbred. same for Siphon. I guess that's what it takes to be a commercail stallion. .

AK, Thanks for asking about Smart Guy! He just had his first stakes winner (Secretintelligence) at the end of July, and is ranked #15 by progency earnings among PA Stallions despite only having 4 runners to date! He bred more mares in 2006 than he did in his entire stud career prior, so he's on the way up for sure.

As for Gators N Bears, a very neat horse. I adored him on the racetrack. I hope buyers are smart enough to give him a chance commercially...it may depend on what kind of mares he gets.
