I agree on liking smaller horses overall as racehorses but the yearling market def does not. If they are good enough they make it anyway Rahy, Forest Wildcat etc but they really have a hard start. Jazil is going to have it very difficult time with his size many will never give him another look. Me and many others will cull him based on his lack of speed and overall ability and then whoever is left many will not because he stands at Shadwell. Maven, bdw etc I didnt mean any disrespect in your stallion selection at all its just that these posts all started to sound like by everyone that a stallion prospect has to come from a big sire producing family & excluding a horse with the talent of Ghostzapper just based on this one thing I thought was very silly & or thinking a horse with the ability of Jazil can make it just because of his family.

show me one top stallion that doesn't' come from at least a creditable female family?

look at smart strike... his fee started off small but my gosh look at his pedigree. 2, count em 2 broodies of the year plus numerous million dollar earners.

If I was breeding and Ghostzapper was 75k.. I'd be worth a shot considering how much I like the horse. but 200k? I know maven didnt pay that but why go with that when I can pay 225 for Distored Humor? one of the hottest sires on the planet?

I don't look at any differently than any human family... certain familes pass on certain traits better than others.

Take my family. Everyone of my cousins, my aunts and my mom are all spitting images of each other. I mean REALLY spitting images of each other. I'm mixed and you could spot my mom a mile a way if I was there.

There are families that don't do as good a job of passing traits along either. One of my dad's friends is 6'7 and has 4 kids, all grown, all shorter than I am.

So when I look at female families< i'm not looking for how many stallions they have, I'm simply looking at do they pass on important traits or not

Why does everyone always bring up how small Jazil is? He's almost 15.3 and like the Shadwell manager pointed out to us, "He's taller than Northern Dancer." He's very short backed, so maybe he appears to be even smaller to some people, but he's very balanced. I liked him a lot.

Jazil is breed to race, so who cares if he's small? Anyway, what about all the carping that's going on about thoroughbreds being too big for their legs etc. etc. Small isn't going to have that problem, so I'd expect Jazils to be fairly durable.

Super Frolic is another small horse, great race record, tail female to La Troienne, got kicked out of Kentucky before he even bred a mare because he's small. I see he's nominated for the Mass Cap, and next year he's going to stand somewhere in the Mid Atlantic. I'd breed to him and to Jazil in a heartbeat.

I want to promote durability and stamina, as well as speed in the breed. And since I'd be breeding to race, I couldn't care less about either size or fashion.
