I'm not a particular Alex fan, but I thought that he and Limehouse (!) had the best-looking first-crop weanlings at Keeneland.

I am no expert but I thought he was a great racehorse and if even half of his foals look like the one we have at the farm - he will be a successful sire too :)

I don't disagree, but it's interesting that you say that, because a) Afleet Alex is not the most correct horse and b) Limehouse's stud fee went down for next year. I've thought for a long time that Limehouse's pedigree is VERY interesting if you have the right mare. And I know someone with a very nice looking foal by him. I figured with the large book of mares Afleet Alex got, perhaps they weren't as selective as they might've been. But, with the looks of his foals, it would appear that they probably were careful not to let in mares who weren't correct.

I find Limehouse to be a really interesting stallion. We bred to him last year and got a nice, big, colt. I'm guessing his stud fee might have been lowered a bit in an attempt to attract a broader range of mares. Since he's already 3 x 3 to Mr. Prospector and 3 x 4 to Northern Dancer that really limits breeders' options with what they can bring to him. I love his pedigree and his race record. I'm really looking forward to watching his first foals race in 2009.

Good luck with that colt, LB. Will you race him yourself?

I don't know, that's up to the marketplace. :D We have five foals this year and, assuming nothing goes wrong in the meantime, we'll sell four next September and keep one. The plan is to let the buyers decide which ones they want and keep the one they don't.

This is a picture of him from last spring:

Wow, what a nice colt! Is he as huge as he looks?

Pretty much. He was born big and just keeps on growing. :D

What breeding does he have on the female side, if you don't mind sharing? I'm very curious about the pedigrees of the mares he got, since his own pedigree is intriguing.

Hi LB. That's a great point - he's got an awfully closed pedigree. I was thinking that he might be better served standing in Florida and bringing some of that "commercialness" with him.

Good luck with his kiddies. The l'il one in the picture has the same left hind white foot that Limehouse has. LOL!

She's by Seattle Slew x Silent Account (by Private Account)

He looks outstanding, LB. I would be shocked if he were your "worst seller".

Thanks Cathy D! Actually he's got some pretty stiff competition just in our little group.

Rokeby, Limehouse has two left socks and a belly spot. I really wanted the belly spot. :D But our mare is plain bay, so I really can't complain.

When I worked at Centennial Farm I had Silent Account in my barn. I was Paula Parson's assistant trainer. Silent Account was one of my favorites, I also had Topicount and Aptostar.

You are so lucky to have one of her daughters, especially one by Seattle Slew.
