So how much will the corrective surgery done on Curlin as a yearling affect his stud fee? The legs you see on him now are not exactly the way nature made them.

Anyway, I think he should stand for about $75,000, but I am 99.9% sure it will be more than that.

Can they stand him for stud, even though the ownership issue is still not finalized?

I think the 20% owned by the Phen Phen lawyers is going to be sold by Keeneland.

Just to hitch a ride on this thread. Assuming that the 20% share sale does not get stopped by yet another legal issue, how much do you think it will sell for? I think the sales price will be an indication of what they believe the stud fees are going to be for Curlin. My guess, is about $ 2 million for the 20% share. Not that I am a bidder.

If you were basing it on a 150,000 stud fee and a large book of mares then it (20%) could be worth around $12 million.

My guess would be that it would sell for more like $10 million though.

$2 million wouldn't even be in the ballpark.

I have settled between 5 and 8 million.

My guess is that the 20% share will sell for ~ $13 million.

I'd estimate that 20% share at $5-$10-million. Because it is a minority share (no control), it really isn't worth 20% of Curlin's value.

I believe that Jess Jackson has right of first refusal on the remaining piece of the horse. So it's very unlikely that he won't match the highest bid and become sole owner.

He had an OCD lesion removed from his left ankle as a weanling.

I believe Jess Jackson will buy the remaining interest. OCD surgery will have no bearing on his price now. It was corrected and he has ran solid and sound. He is the first big horse in a long time that actually was campaigned and wasn't wisked off to stud do the week after the breeders cup or Triple crown series.

If I had the mare and the that kind of money money I would not be scared to breed to him to race or commercially. [/u]
Thanks,

Kathy
