Somebody on one of the boards was sending a mare to Victory Gallop and found out after they had received the signed contract he was sold to Turkey and they really tried to get them to send the mare to Sharp Humor....

They can suggest another stallion on the farm but any contract signed to a stallion is void if the stallion is no longer able to service the mare, whether its a location change or a medical issue.

Although if the Turkey Breeders rewards are terrific and they're paying for air transport...

Kind of like when Coolmore quickly retired a horse (I forget his name...) to replace George Washington, I can't beleive anyone would have jumped over to him...but they did. It's shocking to me that they think people will just accept whatever the spin masters throw at them.

Ascot Stud, I think it was Holy Roman Emperor.

Maybe you all should inquire what happens if the stallion of your choice is no longer available for what reason however. Ask the stud to put in on paper.
The more I get to know people, the more I love animals.

On another forum, it was announced that Dehere and Lion Heart are gone.

Boy, that was fast as the stallion manager said they might be leaving but he didn't think it would happen. :?

yes they replaced george washington with holy roman emperor
which was a very very good 2yr old at that point - but i agree with you.
so lion heart and dehere are gone? powerscourt as well?

i have to say - that is such a rip off by coolmore.
they did the same in Europe with Hawk Wing.
After the first crop of 3 yr olds (which wasnt that bad) they sold him to india.
i know a lot of people sending their blacktype mares and group winners to Hawk Wing to find out 3 month later that they sold him and that was pretty much it. the foals where pretty much worthless - you couldnt sell them ... nothing .....

with coolmore its only about the numbers .....
they truly dont give a shit about he people :(

And yet...you can hardly place all the blame on Coolmore. Surely the fickleness of the TB marketplace has to accept a share as well. If a stallion is producing good offspring that are running well the fact that he has been shipped out of the country shouldn't have any effect on the real--not perceived--value of the foals he "leaves behind".

In a logical market, their worth and potential shouldn't change based on their sire's physical whereabouts. After all they are just as likely to perform well on the track after the stallion is gone as they were before he left.

Give the Pope and the King of England a horse and in thirty days, they'll be stealing halters.

It has been discussed on threads here before. The fact is, this business is full, I mean full, of greedy people and outfits. Sending Dehere to Turkey at the age of 19 is nothing but good old fashioned greed. I wouldn't do business with Ashford if they were the last place on earth.

Has anyone seen the new Thoroughbred Times? More than a little egg on their face with a feature article on the Southwest entitled "Vinery's Decision to Relocate Yonaguska to Elite Thoroughbreds in Louisiana Pays Off"

Will they do an article on Turkey with a similar title?

Perhaps it paid off in that they were able to demand more money from the Turkish JC when he was sold.

Another mistake with Dehere

Postby RandomThoughts » Fri Feb 12, 2010 9:35 pm

I agree that it's pretty cold to send the 19 year old Dehere to a probable end in a stew pot in Turkey. Obviously, somebody at Coolmore disliked the horse from the outset and proceeded to mismanage him throughout his career. Despite that, he produced very respectable AEI's in the mid 1.80s as both a sire and a broodmare sire. Also, in my opinion he exhibited one of the most explosive turns of foot I've ever seen as a race horse on the dirt.
Consistent with this travesty, they have replaced him with a short career grass horse from Europe at the same stud fee. Bet I know how this is going to work out.[/img]
The talented ones will give you an early hint.

Dehere is only leased to the Turkish Jockey Club. The other four were sold outright.
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....
