Enjoying this one, and don’t want to hijack but does anyone know of any stallions in resent history that have been “dumped” from Kentucky and then returned?

Hi Ascot:
I am not sure there is a valid comparison because until recently horses were not sent from KY until after their first crop were 3 year olds (unlike Half Ours, Teuflesburg, Shakespeare, etc). Leo Castelli was sold to Russia and then bought back in the late 80's or maybe early 90's. Of course he never again had a significant runner. Dehere more recently was re-purchased from the Japanese and has good runners but has not had a big horse since his return.
The old saying is that the only sure way to make a stallion is to kill him or sell him overseas.
The Johannesburg and Lion Heart scenarios are not that different from when Coolmore sold Dehere to the Japanese - they will sell if the price is right.
By the way Derby2004, you don't think that the kings of overhype (Forestry, Forest Danger, Candy Stripes) did not over-hype Half Ours? You must not have been paying attention....it may be that people finally caught on to hype jobs from that farm. I agree they cooked their own goose when they overpriced him from the beginning, and I do think the LA move was the best secondary move they could have made. However, we simply do not agree on the "dumping" - no big deal. You say "tomAto" I say "tomato".

A difference of opinion is what makes horse racing and missionaries.

They were dumped, how much hassle was it to get Lion Heart those 180 mares, how many paid the full service fee?
How likely was the stallion going to increase to a $50k or more stud?
Never in a lifetime.
His AEI is 1.42 compared to 1.41 what does that tell you?
He was dumped.
His AEI shows improvement over mares, even if only slight, which puts him in the top 3rd of stallions. Most stallions do NOT improve their mares.

Our Emblem........only to be dumped again.
Stallions leased to foreign counties for a season or two don't really count I don't think.

HALF OURS
I was at Clear Creek in May and saw Half Ours.
Taylor Made didn't "dump" Half Hours. He's on a one year lease to Clear Creek, although Mr. Murrell indicated to me he would love to have him stay. Much to do with breeder awards.
Remember also, TM stands UnB Song and Old Fashioned right now. I don't see that they'd want a second son there.
