I don't think anyone who bred to Bernardini seriously expected him to be a top two year old sire. So the fact that his early runners did so well last year was just the icing on the cake, not something to be relieved about.

How well his first crop will ultimately do won't be determined for another 2 years.


You don't think any of those 110+ mares he bred in his 1st book were at all precocious? I would hope atleast someone hoped for some 2yr old success from those mares :wink:

Well some of them obviously were, or at least they had the ability to produce precociousness. But anyone who spends 100K on a stud fee is looking for a classic, two turn kind of horse not for one that will break its maiden going 5f in June of its 2yo year.

Well in that same vein I think its also fair to say that no one would have thought Congrats would have the Freshman year that he had, either.
