I wouldn't call Premium Tap, Giacamo, Brother Derek, George Washington, Lava Man, Perfect Drift, Lawyer Ron, Sun King, Flower Alley, Suave and David Junior...nobodies. So to say he beat no one, would be a lie since he beat all of these horses handily in 1 race. And being an AP Indy would have improved with age. His Travers and Jim Dandy fractions and final times were solid and his Gold Cup wasn't too bad either, in all 3 races he never got out of a gallop. Don't let your bias cloud your judgement. If you don't like him BDW thats fine, but don't blow smoke up our asses and say he didn't do much when its all on paper.

Before deciding that Bernardini's connections were greedy, what would the insurance have been to keep him running as a 4 year old?

As for Barbaro, there was an interview with Matz where he was talking about the brothers--where he stated that for the most part, they were late maturing horses, and Barbaro was the exception, where he developed early.

Anyone know what kind of disposition of the two other brothers have? Barbaro seemed to be reasonably mellow for a Dynaformer. At least the didn't bite the face off the female reporter who kissed him on the nose in one of his post surgery interviews. He (Barbaro) had his ears back and was clearly thinking about it.

But to answer the question posted at the top of the thread...what the hell does Barbaro running in the same race have to do with how other horses of his crop are doing at stud? He was by Dynaformer, so he would probably not have had much of an impact, maybe had a stakes winner or 2 so far and be kept in KY because of that and the massive support he got. How the horses of his crop performed at stud has no co-relation with how he would have performed at stud. If that was the case I will run a filly against an Oaks winner and then hope she pumps out great foals...because hey she ran against and in the same crop as an Oaks winner, thanks for one of the dumbest questions ever Dublino.

Hmmm, all I asked was what if he hadn't of died, how is that one of the dumbest questions ever?

If your trying to be a pr1ck for the sake of being a pr1ck ok thats your perogative, but to say what I asked was a dumb question, thats a tad bit silly.

LOL.Calm down folks. Bdw has his opinion of Bernie and some others(like myself) have theirs. Would Bernardini have beaten Barbaro in the Preakness if the tragedy hadn't happened? We will never know and honestly I can't call it but I do know it would have been one heck of a race. I bet on Bernardini that day because his form impressed me before the race.
X factor, I have no idea what the insurance would have cost the owners of Bernardini but honestly as rich as they are...Why?
Your point about Barbaro being early maturing vs his full sibs is interesting. Perhaps he would have been a better Dynaformer sire because of that. Precocity. We will never know.

Xfactor asked what insurance costs would have been for Bernardini to race as a 4yo - rate with ASD probably would have been 4.5% (possibly as low as 4.0%) of insured value. However the only horse Darley has insured in the last 20 years was Dubai Millenium, so it is doubtful they would have insured Bernie.

"Greed" could be the proper term, but not in reference to money - Sheikh Mohammed bred 60 of his own mares to Bernie in each of his first 2 breeding seasons, and their offspring did not go to auction. If it was all about money Bernie would have been syndicated and Darley might would have retained a controlling number of shares.

We need a good son of Dynaformer at stud - Purim's first crop are 2yo's this year but I do not expect them to be precocious. Look for them next year as 3yo's. Maybe Brilliant Speed will prove to be something other than a poly/turf horse - if he runs well on the dirt he will certainly be a popular stallion prospect.
A difference of opinion is what makes horse racing and missionaries.
