yup... he bred 192 this year

Man that's a lot of mares. That's at least 192 covers if he batted a thousand. If he started Feb. 1 and ended July 10 that's a little over a cover a day. Are they giving these studs Viagra? :?

Some stallions have a significant libido; an ability to regenerate a volume/quality of semen pretty darn quickly (that may also be viable for quite an extended period of time); plus the benefit of being very well managed; and being presented mares that (for the most part anyway) are well managed also.

In the case of Bellamy Road...I'd be surprised (based on the numbers) if he doesn't have all that going for him.

Assuming excellent circumstances, it's likely reasonable to suggest that it'd be quite fantastic for a stallion to cover (live) 192 mares within the referenced 160 day period of time (Feb 1 thru July 10) and average less than 1 1/2 covers per mare.

If, for discussion's sake, Bellamy Road's averaging 1 1/2 covers per mare...that's 288 covers in 160 days (if my math is correct), which is 1.8 covers (on average) per day.

It wouldn't surprise me though if BR's average number of covers per mare was higher than 1 1/2, and the days he was available might be less than 160.

Whatever...he was likely very well managed, could handle the work, and was presented a high percentage of very well managed mares 8) .

Remember too...he may have averaged approx 2 covers per day...but he was likely finding himself...at least sometimes anyway...servicing mares 3 times per day. I'd like to think 3 was the limit...but who knows.

Three times in a day? I watched a little stallion over at Gainesway back in 1991 cover a mare three times in five minutes! First time he kind of slipped off his little "hill", second one did not seem to show much on the slide so they encouraged him to get it done again. And he did and that mare did foal the next spring.

It's not unusual for a stallion to mount and/or enter a mare a couple of times before he ejaculates. It doesn't count until he gets the job done. What you saw was one cover.
