Nothing about this man says Irishman.

Quite wrong. Excerpt from wikipedia "The son of a County Cork land owner, Magnier was born in Fermoy, County Cork, and received his formal education at Glenstal Abbey in County Limerick but had to leave school at 15 on the death of his father[3] to take charge of the family estate near Fermoy. He showed a remarkable talent for matching bloodlines from an early age and soon gained a reputation as an up and coming stallion master."

Well find out what title he has due to his English heritage?

serious questions

1. why is curlin's stud fee so low? he's not done that bad this year
2. why is Union Rags fee 2x higher than The Factor?

1. Curlin isn't gonna make a good sire 36 runners 12 winners no stakes horses. He will end up in New York or Florida with the next 3 years.
Now Quality Road, he is gonna make it BIG.

2. Pedigree and conformation. The Factor is exactly what some regional breeding program needs for poor mares, cheap speed.

The whole list of fees is a head scratcher Smart Strike is a $100k+ sire Lemon Drop Kid for $35k and City Zip for $25k Pleasantly Perfect $10k Langfuhr $10k Mineshaft $30k are all giveaways so underpriced compared to the "new" sires coming into the industry that have done nothing are likely to do nothing either.

I agree - Smart Strike is top class, City Zip and the rest get no love despite soliid performers consistently. Funny for me to call any sire 'underpriced' but relatively speaking I think so.

Small breeders like me are very lucky to get to those older, proven horses :), especially one's with 5% lifetime stakes winners for those fees!

It's still a little early to judge Curlin. Lemon Drop Kid might've been deemed a dud when his first crop was in February of its 3-year-old season, too. And with promising maiden winners like Palace Malice (Pletcher) and Curly Top (Baffert) making some noise on the fringes of the Derby trail, he could easily heat up in the next few months.

Down to a 0.97 CI - time for gelding or the burger factory.
Big Brown is almost as bad.

Hrmmm....might be time for some adjusted thinking re. Curlin. His first 3-year-olds are midway through the summer and dare I say he's looking pretty good!
