JMO I think,it,s a little bit overdone the stud fee prize, but Iam sure there
will be commercial breeders with their name, and mare in an advertisement from GZ with booked mares to him.
In terms of Iam able to do this.

LOL louis

We Aussie's ain't that stoopid!

We only have one $200k sire. Redoubte's Choice. :)

The rest are "American Dirt Horses". :)

We don't have $500k sires. Yet. But just wait til the sheiks find an oil well or two next to our race tracks. Then we too can boast that we have sold a yearling for $10m to the sheiks, by a Coolmore stallion .........

Ghostzapper

Postby summerhorse » Thu Oct 27, 2005 12:48 pm

I never jumped on the GZ bandwagon, yeah he was wonderful but we don't need horses THAT unsound no matter how fast they run. But to pay $200,000 for a foal from him? Talk about a fool and his money. I wonder really how many will actually PAY that, I bet most of his breedingswill be from shareholders and foal sharing and the like. I'd rather breed to his father who was also an excellent racehorse, a TINY bit sounder and is PROVEN.

i'm bringing back a super old thread

1. Ghostzapper covered 112 mares last year.. ovboiusly someone is willing to pay these pie in the sky prices

Everyone knows I will go down in flames defending Ghostzapper as a race horse.. but as a Stallion? I'm running the opposite way. you can drop a 0 from that and i still don't think it's much value if any.

for crying out loud, his female family is so bad, it's the same family that produced lil E Tee!!! and we all know that can't mention Champion Stallion without mentioning Lil E Tee (holding in laughter)

The family does a good job of producing good race horses, but if lil e tee is the best you can do? 200k? And he's unsound too boot!

I believe City Zip is a little more worthwhile stallion than Lil E Tee. While he is not a leading sire he is a solid one. Yes advertised stud fee are too high but so are the yearling prices that drive them. Thats the business in KY. Stronach has enough really good mares to ensure Ghostzapper will have the oppurtunity to succeed plus I'm sure his outside book was handled and selected very well. To say he offers not much value if any when dropping a 0 from his stud fee is a very dumb statement to make. He is probley the most brilliant racehorse we have seen in the past 10-15 years at least. Deputy Minister IMO is the most consistant over the top talent producing sire line today. On the soundness issue its a fact that the faster the horse the more like he is to have problems. A horse that cant run very fast should be able to run forever. Assmussen had a very good quote in the Thoroughbred Times recently about how they are not racehorses they are just breeding stock & we get to use them for racing for a little while. Back to the no value just look at today Scipion & Jazil retiring to stud. Neither had any speed nor real deal ability but still going to stud. You can argue all the pedigree stuff you want but theses two at stud at any price is a joke.

I wonder if Ghostzapper could have possibly commanded $200,000 if he retired this year, after Mineshaft has fizzled so badly. I guess we only have a wait a couple of years to find out if people were smart or crazy to pony up that amount.

"What What WHAT??!!"

Crazy fee.

it's sad because he can't live up to the hype.. they know it... they made them a quick what... 50ish million and his fee will go downhill until it's 20k,w which is more around where it should be.

I'm sorry.. Lil E Tee?

We bred a Ghostzapper, albeit with a G1 winner, but we didn't pay anywhere near 200k. Take any listed fee with a grain of salt. MANY are VERY negotiable with the right mare.

Mineshaft hasn't fizzled. He's a first crop sire who didn't in fact race himself until he was three, and was at his best even later. So the jury has to stay out on Mineshaft for a while yet.

You're right. He is a solid stallion. We had a stakes winner by him, Celestial Legend.

I agree with you and I don't like Mineshaft at all or even A P Indy as a sire of sires. I think we should at least give Empire Maker, Mineshaft and Sky Mesa another year to show what they can or cannot do. For that matter, I think we should also reserve judgment on Posse for another year. I noticed with interest that Heilingbrodt is getting out. If this stallion is really the next Distorted Humor, why is one of the main investors with many of the Posses in his racing string jumping ship?

Bottom line, it's just too early right now on the first crop sires.

Mineshaft should get another two or three years before a final decision is made, IMO.
