Pulpit has been the benefit of some very good mares and his AEI is about a point lower than his CI, so he's not really bringing a whole lot to the equation.

Malibu Moon is a solid workmanlike sire, but not a superstar and Old Trieste may have only had a few crops, but he has 197 foals of racing age on the ground and only 2 have really distinguished themselves. Aptitude (a stallion I was quite high on) is floundering. Golden Missle's numbers are woeful for his stud fee and he's also gotten pretty good books of mares. Stephen Got Even (another stallion I like quite a bit) numbers are artificially boosted by one horse, but I'm hopeful he'll get more like that one.

A.P. Indy is only 17, so obviously there is potential for him to do more and he has some interesting product in the pipeline with Mineshaft, Rock Slide, and Full Mandate, but to say he's an excellent sire of sires is just not supported by the numbers yet. His sons are proving to be stallions that can get a really good one occasionally. To be fair I think the jury is still out and I did breed to one of his sons last year, so I'm not overly biased against him, but Mr. Prospector he's not.

Well, I definitely disagree with you on Pulpit. I'm not going to argue the AEI, but he's had some very good horses. It's hard not to call him a successful sire. Aptitude is floundering? He had 12 winners last year. Granted, he doesn't have any stakes class horses yet, but with his late developing pedigree, it's hardly fair to consign him as a failure just as his first crop turns 3. I won't argue GM, but how do you assume he's getting a nice book of mares?

Also, I said Indy was a promising sire of sires, I didn't say excellent. You said he has serious issues (meaning he's not good or hasn't shown anything), and that's what I disagree with.

So far, I think he's done well.

Malibu Moon is improving his mares - AEI 1.66 vs. CI 1.29. Among the top 20 3rd Crop sires only Malibu Moon and the now deceased Archers Bay have improved their mares, and MM to a much greater degree.

Physically his offspring are most impressive and the offspring from his better mares are just hitting the ground in 2006.

I am a believer!
