March 15th and still NO word on Bernardini, the most high profile new stallion in the business - anyone starting to wonder if the AP Indy in him might be causing a little bit of a problem?

It means that a ton of new of new sires have already gotten mares in foal and Bernardini hasn't yet...he may be joining Geroge Washington as co-highweight in the Cigar Stakes later this year. Strange that there's been NO word on Bernardini yet!

Here you go . . . .

If he is going to be shuttling to Australia I would say that he is doing just fine . . . .

How many stallions are really successful at this shuttling thing? It appears to me that shuttling in the early years of his stud career may have hurt Real Quiet, for example.

I see no word that he's gotten anything in foal, do you? The industry is a spin cycle - you know that!

The ONLY young stallion I know to have success on the Shuttle plan has been More Than Ready...I think I even saw or heard that his stud fee in Aussie is higher than here.

I got the darley oz broschure earlier this week, he'll be fine but he'll be a flop in oz, Seattle Slew on either side of the pedigree just doesn't work.

As far as young shuttlers go, Danehill reired here at the same time as ireland, and has been successful, as has Royal Academy and the aforementioned More Than Ready, Importantly for we aussies the shuttle phenomene has allowed us to dilute the gene pool and introduce european refinement and american toughness (less so Aussie gallopers have always been pretty tough) to our Star Kingdom and Sir Tristram lines. It's the second generation offspring (Redoutes Choice and Encosta De Lago) that are having the impact now and they have it all, overseas breeding, battle tested in Aussie conditions. The shuttle phenomenon is very important.

and you never know, Bernadini and for that matter Holy Roman Emperor may not do much on their own, but their daughters and son's may have an impact.

The Aussies went all out on Hail To Reason blood the last couple of years - now that it's in the gene pool, some Buckpasser blood should start to be introduced because Hail To Reason/Buckpasser is nothing short of a 5-Star nick.

More Than Ready and Daneill nick well for that reason, amongst others.

The Seattle Slew floparoo is baffling, he just seems to dominate, so you get either a tough top class horse like air seattle or an absolute nuffie. Other Bold Ruler strains have had some success but not a lot. That's my main worry with HRE when he comes here, Secretariat may ruin him.

I'll wait until his bro runs here before thinking of sending a mare to him.

Seattle Slew has flopped in Aus like many other US breds because they are primarily dirt runners.

The Storm Cat line hasn't had all that must success in Austraila (so I wonder why Henny Hughes is shuttling), and you really have to wonder - Australia is so full of Danzig blood right now, why the heck is Librettist going over there?

Hennessy has done well in Aus so Henny Hughes will get his chance..........the Aus market demand for Danzig blood will never cease.

Personally I think Aus needs more Turn-to and Mr P sire lines without Danzig blood.

Hi Cryptic! At that end of the world, I think Hennessey has one one "big" horse in Australia, but his overall numbers are actually better in Japan.

The demand for Danzig blood should never cease anywhere, but with Danehill and Rodoute's Choice blood swamping Australia, you have to wonder where Librettist will fit in. Maybe as an outcross to the Red Ransom/More Than Ready mares, but I wonder how many of them are free of Danzig on the damside. As Wallinga points out, the More Than Ready/Danehill nick has been successful, so I wonder how many Danzig-free mares are available for Librettist.

Excellent point - the Aussies do lack Mr P blood. I think Fu Peg was the wrong type of Mr P to send over (especially with Danzig as his damsire), but even he had some success in Australia. But as I wrote earlier, now that Hail To Reason has made its way into the Aussie gene pool, I think something with Buckpasser should be seriously considered in Australia.

Then why would we want to bring Mr P line horses out?

Seriously though, the kingmambo's have been a flop, i thought they would be good but they're not I think if anything they are too fine (and most of them are out of Slew line mares) even the grass ones. Geiger Counter did well out here and Straight Strike in NZ but I think the one who may be the key is Machiavellan, Street Cry may be outstanding (some of his youngsters look awesome) Medicies will find a niche in QLD and Storming Home and No Excuse Needed are in NZ so good luck to them.

No doubt Elusive Quality will go alright, but I can't have him at 100k his good filly Camarilla is very talented, and his sire's full brother Lion Cavern has my favourite horse going around at the moment Apache Cat.

As far as turn to go's, we did have a legendary sire who ruled the roost for that sire line in Sir Tristram, who until the advent of the shuttle and mega books had more group one winners than any stallion in the world ever so I guess Turn To's had an influence already through Sir Ivor, and Roberto's influence through At Talaque, Brocco and Red ransom is already significant but only as far as an outcross to Star Kingdom and then to Danzig.

There are still plenty of colonial lines that nick with these imported families too, our industry didn't begin with the importation of Danehill and Last Tycoon

Mr P is much like Danzig, they get both dirt and turf runners. Some Mr P sires are well known for throwing turfers!!!
