I don't see Relaunch, I see *Grey Dawn II. Relaunch had more body, a bit more typey; *Grey Dawn II was racey, like MM, and a bit light in the hip. Of course, any horse right off the track is often at his most unattractive phase. I imagine MM looks a bit different now.

I see the resemblance in the picture of Grey Dawn in the database but the picture I remember from years ago must have been taken when he was much older. As I recall, he was almost as white as Vigors in it and looked like a heavy almost course individual. Of course I never saw him in person but that's how I remember him.

That's what I mean---mature stallions often don't look a thing like they did off the track. When *Grey Dawn II was retired to stud in 1967 his picture looked a lot like MM; kind of the "European" look, if you know what I mean. But he filled out over time. I never thought he threw particularly good looking horses (Vigors being one), but they sure ran. *Grey Dawn II entered stud at Domino Stud for $3,000 and was not especially popular, considering he was the only horse to have ever beaten *Sea-Bird. But in the end, he became a much more successful sire over a long period of time.

Mellon used to say that Sea Bird would have never beaten Mill Reef in the 1971 Arc. He said that his effort in the Arc was equal to Secretariat's Belmont Stakes win.

Hey Michael, I meant to ask you...were you at the track when Most Host beat Damascus? I've never seen a replay of that race...what happened?
