What does it matter what I think?
I have never been one to be swayed by trends or fads in any walk of life.

As I said in a post above would it be best for the mare to be bred to stallion X or bred commercially to stallion Y?

X will give you a runner who will earn and Y will give you a pretty baby that can't outrun a fatman (I am stealing this from another poster on here).

I prefer "Z" - a horse that will give me a runner but also has commercial appeal or even an "X" whose stud fee is lower ;)

Dublinó, you have to admit $5000 is a big jump when so many others are lowering their fee's and trying to help out breeders in general. MB is a lovely horse, but out of 109 mares bred in 09 how many were inside mares?

But then Frank Stronach is the one who redid Gulfstream, hired Canadian Achitect Steven McCasey & over spent by ba'gillions, and then didn't put much in the way of grandstand seating & what he did put he wanted to charge people $10 to sit there. I noticed last year that had gone by the way side & i also noticed the restaurant prices had come down. :)

& yes the fee is low compared to Harlans Holiday etc.. but we are in Ontario, not the U.S. Its a tougher go here, i think & a much smaller pool

I don't think Frank moved him here to help out Ontario Breeder's, he moved him here to help himself, lets be frank LOL  That said i think its terrific he is here. :)

MB

MB would have made a nice gelding. Another example of Stronach's business at work.

Milwaukee Brew sold 10 yearlings in 2009 with a median price of $2600.00 (that's hundred!) dollars.

You tell me, is he a good investment at $12,500 stud fee?

So would the green monkey & mr segicuchi, they should have been gelded.

Forget his sales average what has that got to do with BREEDING horses?

What horse is a good investment, what % of horses make money at the sales?

For what he has achieved as a sire $12,500 is a fair price.
He nearly has 50% winners to foals and 70% winners to starters.
Not many stallions have them stats and not for $12,500.

He is no 68 on the general sires list ahead of many stallions with higher price tags and no 5 in the third crop and Canada's no 1# sire.

Dublin'o i think what is irking people is the $5000 jump in price, its hefty. He is a lovely horse and i don't think people are questioning that.. :)[/b]

Oh heaven's no - why would anyone get that idea?

"MB would have made a nice gelding".

So the stud fee is higher than you like - big deal - you act as if you've never encountered a stallion that was published at one fee and sold for less. if you have a mare that warrants a $12,500 stud fee, make them an offer and let us know what you come up with.

I'm a bit confused after reading this thread. Did Milwaukee Brew go from $7,500 American to $12,500 Canadian? And what about a multiple GSW with a pedigree free of Northern Dancer, Mr. Prospector and Seatle Slew screams 'gelding'?

Yes. But the current exchange rate does not warrant a $5K leap due solely to a different currency. This also begs the question, does the stallion owner believe, sincerely, that the market is bigger/better/able to pay more in Ontario than the market in Florida?
