Like Zialand I was told the sire of one of my mares In Excess (IRE) could be a bit of a jerk due to the Caro influence. My mare is not so much dangerous as she just has to have things her own way and you have to be careful with her in certain situations. Stocks being her main "scary" thing. When she had her foal this year, she was reluctant to let it nurse, so they came in to tranq her and she tried to bite and kick the vet at the same time when he gave her the shot. We really try to watch temperment on stallions we breed her to. It may not be all In Excess (IRE) in her case though as both her dam and second dam died quite young and I know nothing about her broodmare sire Mtoto.

Mtoto

I know a son of Mtoto. Mtoto stands (stood?) in Germany so he may be fairly obscure. His son is one of my favorite horse freinds. He's not a gentle horse but is CERTAINLY not mean. I'll describe him thisway: when I walk into the barn he is very forceful (head shaking, rattling his gate and being very vocal) until I walk over to him acknowledge him. Then it seems to me that he thinks of me as a member of his herd and grooms me while I pet him. People in the barn who see this but do not know the level of my association with him warn me that he's dangerous and to be careful. I know that there are people out there who think it is awful and dangerous for everyone else because he'll act like this with other people(?)and I'm doing wrong, but that is our relationship. The point is, it is dangerous and I could get hurt. But if I'm correct and he does think of me as another horse, HE doesn't know he's being rough and scaring some people. He is what he is. If his sire, Mtoto, is like that I would call him an average horse.
